Historia
Anne Lamott writes about faith, family, and community in essays that are both wise and irreverent. It's an approach that has become her trademark. Now in Small Victories, Lamott offers a new message of hope that celebrates the triumph of light over the darkness in our lives. Our victories over hardship and pain may seem small, she writes, but they change us - our perceptions, our perspectives, and our lives.

some duplicate essays, but still great
Revisado: 08-21-24
This is all wonderful, classic Anne writing, but just FYI, there are some duplicate essays from Traveling Mercies in here. I enjoy hearing her read them, though.

Historia
The archdeacon of Notre Dame, Claude Frollo, falls in lust with Esmerelda, a gypsy dancer who is much admired in Paris. At his instruction, Quasimodo, the hunchbacked bell-ringer of Notre Dame who he has befriended, kidnaps her. Esmerelda is rescued by Phoebus de Chateaupers (Captain of the Royal Archers) and she falls mistakenly in love with his bravery when he is, in reality, something of a rogue and a braggart.

Here, Simmons returns to this richly imagined world of technological achievement, excitement, wonder and fear. Endymion is a story about love and memory, triumph and terror - an instant candidate for the field's highest honors.

Didn't really go anywhere, but listened to anyway
Revisado: 08-16-17
Long winded and could have been told in a paragraph. And ends in cliffhanger. Those are two sons of this book. And there are many open ends, will they be cleverly wrapped up or are we looking at a deus ex machina?

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Boring............................So dang boring..
Revisado: 04-11-17
Would you try another book from John Scalzi and/or Wil Wheaton?
I like Wil, but John....no way. I am driving, not napping.
Has The Collapsing Empire turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes.
What didn’t you like about Wil Wheaton’s performance?
Wil was fine.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Collapsing Empire?
Most of them can be replaced with on sentence.
Any additional comments?
This book was a waste of money, and I don't think I will be buying audio books again. Too much money to risk on a damn boring story.
