Historia
In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett’s death leaves behind a puzzling inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny: a black cake, made from a family recipe with a long history, and a voice recording. In her message, Eleanor shares a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspicion of murder. The heartbreaking tale Eleanor unfolds, the secrets she still holds back, and the mystery of a long-lost child challenge everything the siblings thought they knew about their lineage and themselves.

Historia
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

So boring but I kept up with it
Revisado: 04-29-23
I chose this because it was on my local bookstore top ten. The voice put me to sleep. Don’t listen while driving. It was weird and not appealing to me maybe because I’m not a gamer. Hated all the flawed characters.

There is no love lost between the president of the United States and Ellen Adams, his new secretary of state. But it’s a canny move on the part of the president. A book on tape that will keep you awake in the car
Revisado: 09-23-12
Where does Those Who Save Us rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of the few books whose narrator has kept me awake while driving hours and hours late at night. Usually I start dozing and switch to music, but I couldn't stop listening to this book, and was sad was it had ended.

Historia
In a Balkan country mending from war, Natalia, a young doctor, is compelled to unravel the mysterious circumstances surrounding her beloved grandfather’s recent death. Searching for clues, she turns to his worn copy of The Jungle Book and the stories he told her of his encounters over the years with “the deathless man.” But most extraordinary of all is the story her grandfather never told her - the legend of the tiger’s wife.

Boring, confusing, what the heck was it all about
Revisado: 05-25-11
I lived in the Balkans. It is an interesting place. I have no clue what this fairy tale was trying to tell us. Ho hum. I didn't think the characters were well developed. It just didn't flow. I kept rewinding because I was so confused.

Evangelicals, homosexuality, and in vitro

Wow. Only someone like Jodie Picoult could incorporate all three of these controversial topics into one novel and make it interesting and make you think about both sides. It kept taking different turns, and my interest was held.

Smart, sassy, and full of suspense
Revisado: 10-30-10
I love Gerard Doyle's narration. His voice is sexy and has great resonance. The story isn't as intriguing as the other two in the trilogy, but it kept me company and awake on many long drives and I may start all over again and listen to the 3 in the trilogy. FYI: each book can be read on its own. I started with book 3.

Breezy and fun
Revisado: 10-30-10
If you like the previous "Shopaholic" books, you'll enjoy this. Narrator's accent and expression is a pleasure to listen to. Some might find this just more of the same (I"d like to give it 3 1/2 stars), so it depends on if that is something you want to embark on.

Historia
Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul - the gentrifiers, the hands-on parents, the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbor, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter's dreams. Together with Walter - environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man - she was doing her small part to build a better world.

Historia
Young Michael, an illegal immigrant escaping the troubles in Northern Ireland is strong and fearless and clever, just the fellow to be tapped by Darkey, a crime boss, to join a gang of Irish thugs struggling against the rising Dominican powers in Harlem and the Bronx. The time is pre-Giuliani New York, when crack rules the city, squatters live furtively in ruined buildings, and hundreds are murdered each month.

Now this was a great story. I loved the story, the narrator, I stayed up late at night because I just couldn't put it down. And it didn't put me to sleep while driving. Wish I had more from this author!!!!
