Exclusively from Audible. 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.' So begins Charles Dickens' most famous historical drama: a gripping tale of war, social injustice and the choice between darkness and light. After being unjustly imprisoned for 18 years, French doctor Manette is released from the Bastille jail in Paris and embarks upon a journey to London in the hope of finding the daughter he never met.

Historia
When Gone with the Wind appeared in 1936, it became on overnight sensation. Nothing like it in American literature had ever been seen. It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize and become one of the most celebrated films of all time. It has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide and been translated into 27 languages. Gone with the Wind is both an historical novel and an examination of the bewildering changes that swept Georgia in the 1860s.

Epic saga; A must read; Excellent narration
Revisado: 08-08-23
So glad I finally read the book. Loved the movie but this added so so much depth to the story and characters. It must’ve been a really tough job to extract the screenplay from this epic saga- every detail seemed worth leaving in. The narration was excellent- they could not have chosen a more suitable narrator for this story. Sometimes watching the movie first can ruin a book, but having the movie characters in mind actually enhanced the story for me.

Historia
Shocking and controversial when it was first published, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of the Joad family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land.

Glad to have read it- deepens ones understanding of the Great Depression
Revisado: 01-04-20
This book was like a marathon, but I’m glad I persevered. Such rich detail describing the period and the experiences of suffering during the Great Depression. John Steinbeck knew how to capture the essence of the period. I’m glad a read this as an Audio book though, because it would’ve been difficult to get through in written format. Excellent narration.

Everyone knows that the family’s lucrative shipping business will go to her cousin, Adam, one day. But when her grandfather dies, Emily receives an unexpected inheritance: Peverills, a sugar plantation in Barbados - a plantation her grandfather never told anyone he owned.

Weak story; poor narration.
Revisado: 01-04-20
Poorly written book. Events the should happen much later in the book, happen almost at the beginning. Voice of narrator very difficult to get comfortable with- that was the first thing that bugged me but I was hoping for a good story despite the narration. To be fair, I only managed to persevere through half the book. First book that I regret using my monthly credit on :(
