Historia
When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it's the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run - and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry's tea leaves... But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss...

if you're into listening to a PhD moan and groan
Revisado: 06-06-23
The author is using this book as a self-help for herself. she complains a lot about covid-19 and how we should have all done better and how terrible her parents were. The book had a few really good points but seems like she was stretched to make a full book.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Historia
At the height of the Holocaust, 25 young inmates of the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp - mainly Jewish women and girls - were selected to design, cut, and sew beautiful fashions for elite Nazi women in a dedicated salon. It was work that they hoped would spare them from the gas chambers. This fashion workshop - called the Upper Tailoring Studio - was established by Hedwig Höss, the camp commandant’s wife, and patronized by the wives of SS guards and officers.

an amazingly well written yet difficult book
Revisado: 03-02-22
this was an amazingly well written, extremely informative yet difficult to read book. she holds nothing back when she describes the atrocities that happened and the suffering involved. I'm so grateful she took the time to do so as I don't think I will ever be the same, in such a good way!

Historia
Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months - ever since I caught my can’t-be-soon-enough-ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I’m 35 years old, and I’ve lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity. But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who’s ever gotten me. Even after death, though, she’s helping me get back up again. Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house.

If you like the F word this is your book
Revisado: 01-27-22
This is a fun flirty story line but wow I have never heard or seen any movie or book that has as many F words as this book. It's like they are trying to set a new world record or something. It actually really distracts from the storyline and is in so many awkward places it just feels forced.

Historia
We pile on “to-dos” but don’t consider “stop-doings”. We create incentives for good behavior, but don’t get rid of obstacles to it. We collect new-and-improved ideas, but don’t prune the outdated ones. Every day, across challenges big and small, we neglect a basic way to make things better: We don’t subtract. Leidy Klotz’s pioneering research shows why.

Leidy should have subtracted about half the book

First third was good second third was a rant on climate change and the last third was a recap of the first two. Wish I had ended the book early.

The grandmother is Swedish, a retired domestic. The boy is Ethiopian and adopted, and he will grow up to become the world-renowned chef Marcus Samuelsson. This book is his love letter to food and family in all its manifestations.

good read but hard to understand at times
Revisado: 07-07-21
The narrator, himself, was hard to understand at times. I can understand why from the story. I think in some ways it added to the story but also distracted from it too.
The story itself was great. Although there was quite a lot of profanity. All throughout the book I was wanting to taste the dishes he was describing. They all sounded so good. Interesting to know the process a chef takes to get where he's at.

Historia
In October 1993, a tiny start-up called the Food Network debuted to little notice. Twenty years later, it is in 100 million homes, approaches a billion dollars a year in revenue, and features a galaxy of stars whose faces and names are as familiar to us as our own family's. But what we don't know about them, and the people behind them, could fill a book.

food Network history lesson with some audio flare
Revisado: 06-17-21
this definitely reads more like a history than a story but it was fun to see all the characters and hear where they came from what they did at the beginning the middle and the end. I feel like the narrator did an excellent job reading the story aloud and adding the exact amount of flare to be entertaining.
