A Triumph!
Revisado: 03-25-25
I forgot how much I loved this story. I read it when it was first published, but I had never listened to the audible version. Everything about it worked! Excellent narration. Beautiful storytelling. I will listen again.

Loved it!
Revisado: 12-15-24
There is something about the way Candice Carty-Williams writes her characters, which makes them feel like family… like people I have known my entire life. I loved this book so much that I didn’t want it end. I wanted to know what their next chapters of life would be. I felt the same way about her previous book Queenie.

I loved this story so much! I am not a huge fan of romance, but I read all of Tia William’s work. I love how witty and hilarious her writing is. This was the most beautiful love story, and the narrator was exquisite! I can’t wait for her next book!

Historia
The story opens with the apparently accidental drowning of a sixth form student in the Norfolk countryside. As a matter of routine, or so it seems, the case passes across the desk of Detective Sergeant Smith, recently returned to work after an internal investigation into another case that has led to tensions between officers at Kings Lake police headquarters. As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Colored woman?
Revisado: 11-20-24
How was this book released in 2016, but still uses language like, “young colored woman”?

Villainizing Native American People
Revisado: 11-05-24
This story was not good. First of all, the protagonist is a jerk and not likable. The fact that all women just couldn’t find him resistible wasn’t believable.
Most importantly, villainizing Native American people didn’t sit right with me. I could not connect with the story, especially when the characters dehumanized Native American people and called them derogatory names.

In the course of her everyday work, career-driven assistant district attorney Nina Frost prosecutes child molesters and works determinedly to ensure that a legal system with too many loopholes keeps these criminals behind bars. But when her own five-year-old son, Nathaniel, is traumatized by a sexual assault, Nina and her husband, Caleb, a quiet and methodical stone mason, are shattered, ripped apart by an enraging sense of helplessness in the face of a futile justice system that Nina knows all too well.

I simply didn’t care
Revisado: 10-12-24
For such a heartbreaking story, I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the protagonist Nina. I felt more for the other characters. I really struggled to finish this book, especially since it seemed like the author wasn’t committed to any particular direction at all. Nina’s monologues were tedious too, I found myself wishing she’d have a terrible ending. I expected more from this author.

Tedious

This one wasn’t good at all. It was tedious and just not believable. She could have done better with this story. I also need to take note of how unbelievably dumb Jerry and Shiela are in this book.

No Audible, I did not enjoy this program.
Revisado: 10-02-24
I hate to post this, but this was the worst Audible experience I have ever had. Why did the author sign off on this narrator? She completely ruined the story. I am sorry to say this, but she is the worst narrator ever. Why would she do this to someone else’s work? Please redo the recording for this book, many authors do it all the time. Please! This should not be out in the world! Burry it! Burry it deep down into oblivion!
