Historia
Peter Heller is unique in his ability to capture the beauty and nuance of the natural world and its pull on women and men. In The Orchard, he pairs evocative storytelling with jewel-like poems—Hayley’s translations of her most beloved Tang poet, Li Xue—that echo Hayley and Frith’s life in the wilderness and tell their own tale of mother and daughter.

The writing in this book is beautiful. The poetry and prose are both lyrical. This was a very moving book.

Historia
War veteran Peter Ash sought peace and quiet among the towering redwoods of Northern California, but the trip isn't quite the balm he'd hoped for. The dense forest and close fog cause his claustrophobia to buzz and spark, and then he stumbles upon a grizzly long thought to have vanished from this part of the country. In a fight of man against bear, Peter doesn't favor his odds, so he makes a strategic retreat up a nearby sapling. There he finds something strange: a climbing rope affixed to a distant branch above.

West with the Night is the story of a remarkable woman molded and shaped by many things: the African jungle, a certain dog, horses, airplanes, friendships with white men and black. There is no life, no story quite like it.

I listen to a lot of books, and I must say I that this was the best content and presentation I have enjoyed in some time. The writing is almost poetic at times, and the presentation is spot on. I have been recommending this book to all my friends. Thank you for making this book available on Audible.

Historia
Set in the spring, summer and fall of 1952, it's an entertaining and oft-hilarious coming-of-age tale told by an engaging 19-year-old New Jersey gas-station mechanic named Buddy Palumbo, whom several reviewers have likened to Holden Caulfield in Catcher in the Rye. Buddy's a true working-class hero whose mean-spirited, bullying father is a union shop steward at a big chemical plant in Newark, and he wants Buddy to work there, too. But Buddy hates the place, and really wants to hang around the corner gas station—Finzio's Sinclair in Passaic—and learn how to fix cars.

Pulitzer Prize, Biography, 2016. Barbarian Days is William Finnegan's memoir of an obsession, a complex enchantment. Surfing only looks like a sport. To initiates it is something else entirely: a beautiful addiction, a demanding course of study, a morally dangerous pastime, a way of life.

Deserved the Pulitzer Prize!
Revisado: 10-25-16
This book was amazing. The author is obviously a very skilled surfer, but was very humble and self effacing. I really enjoyed his explanation of the oceanography behind the understanding of great waves, and what it takes to find one and decide where the takeoffs are located. His skill as a journalist really shines through to escalate this beyond what could have been a trite book written by someone only skilled as a surfer. I liked the balance between his literary exploits and his surfing alter ego. The places he mentioned working as a journalist are equally as impressive as the places he has surfed. Thank you, Mr. Finnegan, for sharing the details of your truly amazing life!
