Good story

The story was good, cop serial killer mystery. But what I wanted to comment on was how good the narrator was. She really gave the story a personality and kept me engaged. What a real talent!

Tense but leaves you feeling good by the end
Revisado: 12-01-23
I really like this series and this book was one of the best so far. Coincidentally, I live in the area this series is based in so it’s been fun to try and guess if places are based on real ones or not. I read a lot at Lake George and just listened to this whole audiobook while staring out at the north end of the lake, so it was really easy for me to imagine the boat scene!

When a trusted mentor asks for a special favor, Josie is forced out of her place of comfort and directly into the unknown. Travis Wilder confronts life as a competition he is determined to win. Being second best to a girl is not an option. Agreeing to lead a group of pioneers on the Oregon Trail seems like the perfect opportunity to earn some respect.

Favorite in the series
Revisado: 06-19-19
First of all, the narrator is wonderful. He even makes Harley sound attractive, and my previous idea of Harley was very different!
As for the main story, I think this is my favorite in the series so far. I love this time period and the Oregon trail. What makes this book different is that they travel east instead of west. Hey, not everyone made it. Sometimes people wanted to return to where they came from, and someone had to guide them! In this case, Josie and Travis are the guides or scouts. Since you have likely read the previous books, you already know who most everyone is. And it being a romance, you know how it's going to turn out. Every loose end is tied up and you aren't left with questions, just a desire to keep reading!

Fascinating history
Revisado: 06-08-19
The history in this book was very interesting and after looking a few things up, pretty accurate! This was a subject in American history I had never heard of before. William Walker and 1850’s Nicaragua. I can safely say I am glad I did not live in this time period and location!
The main characters were fictional, for the purpose of the story of course. I found it concerning how the relationship begins. Keep in mind this was published in 1977, and set in the 1850’s. In current times, the situation is abhorrent. I would not have called it romance and Eleanora should have been sent straight to a therapist! Luis, a side character, was the true romantic and hero of this story.
As far as the narration, I did not like the voices she gave the main characters. They kind of all sounded like Forrest Gump.

For people who love a thorough ending!
Revisado: 05-02-19
First of all, the narrator is wonderful and really helps you become immersed in the story. His voice really puts you right there in the action. I had already read the text version before listening to the audiobook and I honestly can’t believe how much more of the story I got by listening! My attention was held! I listen to audiobooks in the car and this is one of those books where you get to your destination but just have to wait a bit before shutting the car off.
If you are considering this book, then you must have already read the previous ones. If not, then back up!
This book is different in a way, as the final book in the series. We have been through time and loved so many characters in this large family. If you’re like me, you are really attached to them! I don’t want to spoil anything, but the term I thought of after finishing was “grand tour.” My only regret is not having read the entire series one after another with no breaks. I read Yellowstone Heartsong (book 1) when book 2 was the only other book available. I patiently waited for each book in the series and read them as they came out. I wish I reread the whole series before reading this book. I can’t believe how much I had forgotten!
We do have our new main characters for their story, but as with Peggy Henderson’s other books, we still get appearances from our beloved characters from before. I can’t say how much I love that!
