The same but different
Revisado: 01-01-25
Most Zpoc stories suck. I heard the first book in this series and it was surprisingly good. The second one was really bad. This one is between the two. The characters are, you know, more MarySues. The most interesting characters are the side characters- the mere mortals. This book has a lot of background which is kind of interesting. The bad guys are absolutely pathetic low level npc’s, especially the military guys which is super annoying. I’ve never met a boot who wasn’t full of piss and vinegar but their Military? Mercenary? Are portrayed as ants to the supercivilian MC’s.
And the perfectly trained dog pulls you out of the immersion every time. They should’ve made it a shapeshifter for how much it understands and how perfectly it acts.
Also every knife is a Bowie knife and every handgun is a “9mm”. Just say Glock. Every magazine is a “clip” it gets under my skin but not enough to quit the series.
I like the series for the most part but F me there are some glaring problems you should be aware of. If you can get past these it’s still a better zombie book than 90% of what’s out there.

With little time to spare, Alex must make split-second decisions to prevent her family from being devoured.

It’s zombies
Revisado: 08-01-24
It’ss everything you want in a zombie book. There are tons of worse books. The author has some quirks but the book is exactly what you’re signing up for content-wise. Given how crappy a lot of zombie books are, it’s refreshing to get something expected.

Mostly Good
Revisado: 07-11-24
As far as zombie stories go this is good enough. I’m invested in the series because I really enjoyed the first.
However
Max starts out okay for the first half of the book. Then she’s somewhat annoying. By the end she’s a power fantasy superhero kicking the butts of five active duty soldiers in a row. All of whom are surprised at her ability.
The military is caricaturized so hard it’s difficult to listen to. The soldiers and officers are generic morons who have never experienced civilian life. Max becomes an inconsistent decision maker and it’s frustrating. Stylistically I don’t enjoy getting glimpses into other people’s thoughts when we are following Max.
I really, really liked the first book. I bought this whole series. This book isn’t bad; it’s just the last two hours that have become nearly unlistenable. And Max is impossible to enjoy as a character.

Worth it
Revisado: 10-20-23
This book makes all the difficult parts of the first books worthwhile. The writing is good and visceral. My only complaint is Rayford is downright petulant at times. There’s very little cringe- I only skipped ahead once or twice. The weird transitions between perspectives are present as they have been in all the books so far. Overall this is everything I had wanted in an end times book

Historia
In the lower reaches of Necromunda's Hive Primus, countless hired guns and bounty hunters seek to make their fortune by using their deadly skills to bring in criminals, outlaws and those unlucky souls who've fallen foul of the Guilders. Each of these rogues and killers is different, with particular skills that put them on their path. Neither heroes nor villains, they live in the grey areas - and in these three audio dramas, a trio of bounty hunters have their tales told.

Historia
Now that news of Horus' treachery is in the open, a time of testing has come. Some Legions have already declared their allegiance to the Warmaster while the loyalty of others lies firmly with the Emperor. As Horus deploys his forces, loyalist Astartes learn that a massive Wordbearers fleet is heading to Ultramar, home of the Ultramarines. Unless they can intercept the fleet, and destroy the mighty battleship that has been sent to reinforce it, the Ultramarines may suffer a blow from which they will never recover.

I don’t want a credit refund I want the time I spent listening to this book refunded. Of all the dumb shit I’ve read this book ranks really high. The premise is gold. The characters are obtuse stereotypes. The writing ranges from a juvenile “tell don’t show” to gratuitously morbid. Save yourselves. Read the 40k lexicanium entry.

Great book, grating mispronunciations
Revisado: 12-06-21
It’s a great book and I actually like the overall story method of Overview-> firsthand accounts. What hurts is the narrator saying things like:
Bougain-veeo instead of Bougainville
K A B A R instead of KABAR
Aelite instead of Elite
There are some others but those are the most annoying. Anyways it’s well worth the listen, just prepare to cringe every half hour

Historia
The planet of Caliban exists much as it has for thousands of years - the knightly orders protect the common people, fighting back the beasts that lurk in the depths of the seemingly endless forests. Young Zahariel and Nemiel aspire to join the greatest of the orders, led by the example of mighty Lion El'Jonson and his vision of a peaceful and unified world. But the coming of the Imperium brings new concerns and a new destiny for the Lion as part of the Great Crusade, and the sons of Caliban must decide if they will follow him to glory among the stars.

This is the advice I was given
Revisado: 11-01-21
Skip this book. It’s a YA fantasy for most of it with a hopelessly naive main character. The beginning hints that it will explain why some Dark Angels turn traitor but it doesn’t. Luther very lamely admits to the MC that he is jealous. Then Jonson gets weirdly moody and sends the MC and Luther back to Caliban which is super offensive which seems like a rip off of Horus and the emperor except there is no reason for them to be that affronted. There are a lot of plot holes too that are brought up which make it more irritating- like how the Dark Angels all have calibanite names before finding Caliban.
TL:DR my friend told me to skip this and I wish I could have. There is nothing in this book that “Luther was always in The Lion’s shadow and grew jealous” won’t explain. If I didn’t know these characters would show up in the book that ACTUALLY explains anything, I would have returned this.

Stealing a shard of a dead god’s blood should have been enough adventure for a lifetime. For William Reis, it was just the beginning. William has a single goal in his life, to succeed where generations of others have failed, and gain admittance to the Smithing Guild of Palnor. Men and women from the Reach have tried for years, but all have failed. They have failed for a single reason, a commandment from the Church of Amder. No one from the Reach can ever gain entrance to the Guild. A decree that remains unknown all but the Masters of the Guild, and even they don't know why.

Nothing like the first
Revisado: 02-24-21
Might as well be a different MC from the first novel. The narrative is interesting, even some of the existentialism, but the token hyper-religious zealot from a intergalactic space with the mentality of an 11th century priest is story breaking. This author hates religion and goes through obnoxious, redundant, and nonsensical lengths to show it.
The story is really good otherwise and an interesting investigation of relativism.
