Zinnia Gray, professional fairy-tale fixer and lapsed Sleeping Beauty is over rescuing snoring princesses. Once you’ve rescued a dozen damsels and burned 50 spindles, once you’ve gotten drunk with 20 good fairies and made out with one too many members of the royal family, you start to wish some of these girls would just get a grip and try solving their own narrative issues.

Not bad, not great, simple and sweet

The title of my review pretty much says it all on how I felt about this story. I am certain there are folks who will find it very moving,.. just not me. I have, nonetheless, no regrets for having read it.
There was one line near the end that caught me off guard as it displayed a basic human truth so many people haven’t yet figured out. The essence of it was that the opposite of pity is compassion. Way too many people confuse these two as synonyms.

Yes... It's a kids' story

Yes, it's a story written for pre-teen kids. And that is how I rated it. It is not intellectually stimulating. It has no moral. It doesn't reveal any great human truths. BUT, IT IS FUN! As a 52yo, I appreciated it for its silliness and for the voice actors' performances. A great escape book back to a simpler time in my life.

A very mixed review

Because this is a collection of stories that were written by different authors and read by different narrators, I found that I either truly enjoyed or truly hated each story. There was very little middle ground.
In the second half of the book, I gave each story no more than 10 minutes. If I liked it by that point, I listened to the rest. If it did not capture my attention by then, I jumped to the next story.
This made the second half much more pleasant than the first.

Not only was this a well told story in two acts. It is also an interesting dive into the nature of humanity when the chips are down (way down).
Also, this book was written in the 1970s, it makes for an interesting (nostalgic) archaeological "dig" into what life was like 40 years ago. An opportunity to explore how we have changed and how we have stayed the same.
