Irresponsible and Inaccurate for ME/CFS

As someone with severe ME/CFS for going on 15 years, I found the author's understanding of CFS to be really inaccurate and uninformed. It was hard to listen to a book that implied that this horrible disease was something I'd brought on myself by eating poorly and getting poor sleep.
It makes me distrust the author's advice when they clearly have no actual understanding of what it means to live with ME/CFS (having CFS is not simply the state of being chronically fatigued, it is a severely disabling and complex condition). I find it irresponsible to advertise a solution when the problem itself is so poorly understood.

listen past the first chapter! I was surprised to find an incredibly sharp take on the culture of wealth and the experience of poverty in the U.S. there were moments of the story where the author's words resonated so much with me that only someone who has experienced poverty could have said them. And also some of the most cutting insight into the greed and desire of wealth that I've ever come across. And entertaining on top of it all!

this book was excellent at first! very entertaining and engrossing.
But as the plot came to its climax...i have to think that only someone who hates women could have written such nonsense. I wonder if the author has a vendetta against #MeToo or something. Also very aggressive pushing of acceptable gender roles. Became insufferable to listen too.

I was expecting a superficial mindless rom com story that i could zone out to while working but i was pleasantly surprised by its unexpected turn into something far more meaningful.

I knew this would be vapid but I was not expecting it to be so racist. Like, really really going out of its way to crack extremely offensive racist jokes.

It was completely unclear to me until the very end that the mother character is supposed to somehow be the redeeming character/protagonist?
To me, the mother was the most insufferable, petty, paranoid.
The character development was so confusing and nonsensical, it took until the very end for what the author wanted to portray about her characters to come through at all and only due to pretty out of the blue plot development.
I also wonder about the author's own class background as, myself being someone who grew up poor, I found her depiction of a poor person desiring access to wealth to be totally ridiculous and somewhat offensive.

the author states this is the most traumatic thing that ever happened to her and it is hard to feel pity for her. this is the story of an extremely sheltered, naive, privileged girl who learns that you cant trust people for the first time. if this were the most traumatic thing that ever happened to me, perhaps i would have an overinflated sense of victimization and selfpity as well.

Beautiful writing. Incredible character development. A wide open painful tenderness reckoning with the brutality of living within ongoing colonization. A must read.
