Fight is the backstage story of bloodsport politics in its rawest form—the clawing, backstabbing, and rabble-rousing that drove Donald Trump into the White House and Democrats into the wilderness. At every turn, the combatants went for the jugular, whether they were facing down rivals in the other party or their own.

Behind The Curtain
Revisado: 05-10-25
An 11 hour explanation of how the Democratic machine broke down and went off the rails in the 2024 election. I am sure there is much more to this sordid story that just the viewpoint presented here though it is interesting at times. I entirely missed the treacherous story of the self absorbed Chuck Schumer and his claimed role in convincing Biden to quit. The backstory of Nancy Pelosi's lack of loyalty was very believeable however. Everytime I hear a democrat complain about Trump, I reflect on what a bullet the country dodged by not electing Kamala... who never could seem articulate what she stood for to gain the votes of the American people... that she actually got SO MANY votes in reality is shocking to me... who votes for an empty vessel?
Good luck trying to be governor California Kammy... your time has come... and went...

Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

A Powerful Memoir
Revisado: 02-18-25
This is an incredible story of how willpower, grit, determination, and... a bit of luck helped JD Vance overcome the overwhelming odds against him growing up in tough circumstances. Despite having an addicted mother and few male role models in his young life, he was fortunate in having a caring, if somewhat rough set of grandparents, especially his grandmother.
Being a veteran myself, I noted how important his tour in the US Marines changed his life. The Marines gave him discipline, confidence and great PR skill that are evident today. He was able to attend Yale Law School there after, which expanded the many options open to him.
He was also lucky to meet his wife, Usha, a woman of Indian extraction, also a Yale Law School graduate. He admits she is a wonderful moderating influence that helps him control his temper.
JD Vance is intelligent, verbally gifted and ambitious. Don't be surprised if he succeeds Donald Trump as President. After reading his story, I'd certainly vote for him!

Historia
John Barletta was a Vietnam veteran and Secret Service agent who spent over a decade with the Reagans, poised to give his own life at any moment to save the fortieth president of the United States. His superior riding skills made Barletta the perfect choice to protect Reagan during his frequent visits to the ranch. Over time, he got to know Reagan as few others did.

Views From A Horse Shared With A Great President
Revisado: 09-29-24
Mr. Barletta, was a Secret Service Agent, who because of his horse riding skills, was assigned to protect and ride with President Reagan, a position he held for the next 17 years. In the course of that time, he not only became very close to the President and Mrs Reagan, but also developed a keen sense of the sort of man Ronald Reagan really was... humble, kind, determined, and with a shared love of horseback riding. Much of the story takes place on President Reagan's Western Ranch, Rancho Del Cielo, ("Heaven's Ranch" in Spanish). Rancho del Cielo is a 688 acre ranch located atop the Santa Ynez Mountain range northwest of Santa Barbara, California. For more than 20 years, it was the vacation home of Ronald and Nancy Reagan. Barletta and Reagan spent endless hours over the their years together riding the back trails of the ranch. Barletta also extensively traveled at the President's side as part of his protective detail. Being so close to the President for years enabled Barletta to not only understand Reagan as a man, but also to develop the many stories and anecdotes that formed the based of this great story. I highly recommend this booked be enjoyed as an audio book for best impact. President Reagan died in 1989. Barletta passed away in 2018. His ashes were spread over Rancho del Ceilo. The last horse that Reagan rode and Barletta' own horse were kept together on a 5 acre ranch in Santa Barbara. I expect they both are frequently riding together in Heaven to this day. This was a great story.

Historia
The War on Warriors uncovers the deep roots of our dysfunction—a society that has forgotten the men who take risks, cut through red tape, and get their hands dirty. The only kind of men prepared to face the dangers that the Left pretends don’t exist. Unlike issues of education or taxes or crime, this problem doesn’t have a zip code solution. We can’t move away from it. We can’t avoid it. We have only one Pentagon. Either we take it back or surrender it altogether.

It's Worse Than I Thought...
Revisado: 07-30-24
Retired (1996/23 yrs) Army Officer here. Wow... things sure have gone to hell since I served... We will never win a war with these forces and we live in very dangerous times. The Marxists among us have DELIBERATELY weakened our Armed Forces... not only to make us weak in the larger world, but also to turn our forces against US citizens should they chose to resist. Donald Trump must WIN or we are doomed. He needs to demand the resignations of all Flag Officers with two stars and above and then carefully some back after their allegience to the US Constitution is properly vetted. The overall number of Flag Officer positions need to be reduced by at least 1/3rd. Submarine and warship construction must be put on a wartime footing and accellerated... All DEI and CRT courses need to be struck from all instructional curricular... The Service Academy Chiefs and their deputies need to be retired the day after he assumes office. All the Joint Chiefs need to be replaced... I could go on, but Pete has pretty much nailed it. And... it will take more than four years of DJT to fix it. Try 10-12. We MUST act or entirely lose our country to the Socialists/Marxists...!!!

Over 6,000 miles away, former Navy SEAL James Reece watches the names and pictures of the victims on cable news. Jack Carr Delivers Another Thriller
Revisado: 03-13-24
I am a hard grader and rarely give out 5 Stars... still this effort by Jack Carr delivered the usual twists and turns with the usual detail in depth Carr is known for. The introduction of "Alice" the all knowing AI presence, was a telling interpretation of how there is no escaping the intrusive knowledge and presence the government and Deep State now has over nearly all of us. There seems to be no escaping it, even for those trying to live off the grid.... as usual Ray Porter comes through with an excellent narration. I have no problem recommending this story...

Historia
The island of Iwo Jima was the epic land and sea battle that produced one of the iconic images of WWII: the Marines raising the American flag on Mount Surabachi, an active volcano that was the site of intense hand to hand combat. In this gripping novel, P. T. Deutermann follows a young gunnery liaison officer, Lee Bishop, who during the ferocious battle for the island is pulled from his station aboard the USS Nevada to serve onshore as a spotter, calling in coordinates for the ship to target with missiles.

Another Deutermann Home Run!
Revisado: 12-31-23
I've read a number of Deutermann's novels and frankly I prefer the WWII series. As a former infantryman who has actually called for fire... I can really appreciate the details and background of everything that is involved in that... in this novel, Deutermann accomplishes two major objectives:
1. As a fan of military history, I cannot recall a better explanation of the invaluable role that naval gunfire played in the invasions of so many Pacific objectives, but also in the D-Day Invasion of France, where it was only the courage of Destroyer captains to hazard their vessels close in shore so that German pillboxes and machine gun emplacements could be reduced with the 5 inch direct fire from the Destroyers. It made all the difference. In this story, Deutermann explains trhough repeated examples all the theory and detail that was involved in such a complicated process even 80 years ago.
2, Dueuterman also graphically details the horrors of the battle for Iwo Jima and the terrible price that U.S. Marines paid for it... (26,000 American casualties including 6800+ dead)...even though the later battle for Okinawa would cost 62,000 American casualties including over 12,000 dead or missing, the Battle For Iwo Jima remains at the top of Marine Corps Battle lore due to the brutality and intensity that only added extra emphasis for those veterans who just survived the battle. Given these numbers, there is no question that Truman made the correct decision to use the Atomic Bomb to end the war...even though that decision came at a great cost in civilian Japanese lives.
The honor, courage, guts and determination of all WWII servicemen and women who served during that conflict, especially the sacrifice of so many Marines on Iwo and Okinawa must never be forgotten. Looking at today's military, more concerned with DEI standards and correct pronoun use... one wonders how the US could possibly ever win a similar battle.
Peter Berkrot did a fine job as the narrator for this novel. I strongly recommend this book.

In Killing the Legends, Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard explore the lives, legacies, and tragic deaths of three of the most famous people of the 20th century. Each experienced immense success, then failures that forced them to change; each faced the challenge of growing old in fields that privilege youth; and finally, each became isolated, cocooned by wealth but vulnerable to the demands of those in their innermost circles.

Bill and Martin always do a great job in filling in many of the unknown details of the subject(s) at hand. Was this book in the top tier of the hundreds of books I have read? No... but is certainly in the second tier and worth your time and money if you are curious about any of the three celebrities this book focuses on.

Historia
Summoned to relieve destroyers that are bogged down by escort duty in the escalating Pacific Theater, the Hayward is met with a rather cold reception. In the eyes of Pacific Fleet sailors, North Atlantic convoy duty pales in comparison to the bloody, carrier-sinking battles of Savo Island and Guadalcanal. However, Atlantic Fleet ships have had to specialize in one thing: anti-submarine warfare. The Hayward is sent off into remote South Pacific operating areas with orders to find and destroy Japanese submarines—but with little expectation of success.

Historia
On the morning of June 4, 1942, doom sailed on Midway. Hoping to put itself within striking distance of Hawaii and California, the Japanese navy planned an ambush that would obliterate the remnants of the American Pacific fleet. On paper, the Americans had no chance of winning. They had fewer ships, slower fighters, and almost no battle experience. But because their codebreakers knew what was coming, the American navy was able to prepare an ambush of its own.

I've read several accounts of the Battle For Midway. In another of his great, detailed account of a meaningful historical event, Walter Lord takes us behind the official reports and stories and down into the nitty gritty details and timing that determined how and why it all turned out as it did I applaud Mr. Lord's efforts... but found the audio version to be average. Still this version of the book IS WORTH listening to and I would not hesitate to recommend it to someone wishing to better understand how dumb luck and six random minutes can make such a huge difference in world outcomes...
