Historia
One in eight high school students is depressed. But depression in teenagers can be deceptive, and authorities estimate that a huge number of depressed teens are undiagnosed. Although a medical doctor, Dr. Berlinger initially missed the signs of his own son's depression. Now he shares his Ten Parental Partnering Strategies to help parents rescue their teen from depression-based on his own experiences, nearly 100 interviews with parents of depressed teens, and interviews with mental health professionals.

Woefully out of date
Revisado: 11-19-23
The author went to medical school in the 60s! and the first half of the book seems to be him coming to terms with the legitimacy of the mental health field. There is no mention of teenage stressors in the past twenty years, no social media, gender identity, body dysmorphia, ADHD, sex, increased academic demands, or even the integration of the internet or cell phones in daily life. He warns of the dangers of goths, pot-heads, and dirt bags. He seems out of touch even with the medical side — not aware of LMHC or prescribing NPs — which is crazy given their prevalence.
The narrator’s voice grated on me. He uses an inflection when imitating women.
This book is better suited for the grandparents of the depressed teen.

Historia
1816 was a remarkable year - mostly for the fact that there was no summer. As a result of a volcanic eruption at Mount Tambora in Indonesia, weather patterns were disrupted worldwide for months, allowing for excessive rain, frost, and snowfall through much of the Northeastern US and Europe in the summer of 1816.

Far too long for so little (unique) material
Revisado: 10-06-23
It’s almost is if the manuscript was never edited. He quotes countless newspapers saying exactly the same thing for almost 100 pages.
Allow me to summarize the whole book in a paragraph. Volcano erupts in Indonesia and it was very loud. There was unusual snow in June and spectacular sunsets. The summer was cool and dry in the Americas, while wet in Europe. Crops were very poor and grain prices increased. Thomas Jefferson had a fascination with meteorology and liked making weather measurements. Lord Byron and Mary Shelley spent the summer in Switzerland. People were hungry and poor in 1817 and there was much unrest. The end.

Incoherent stream of consciousness
Revisado: 07-10-16
The book is an incoherent stream of consciousness. While it is clear the author is a deep thinker, it is also clear he has not spent adequate time thinking about how to best communicate his message. Complete waste of my money and time.
