Historia
Does the chance of getting caught affect how likely we are to cheat? How do companies pave the way for dishonesty? Does collaboration make us more honest or less so? Does religion improve our honesty? Most of us think of ourselves as honest, but, in fact, we all cheat. From Washington to Wall Street, the classroom to the workplace, unethical behavior is everywhere. None of us is immune whether it's the white lie to head off trouble or padding our expense reports.

Truth may be told… or not?
Revisado: 09-04-24
The Philosopher Diogenes of Greece used to walk in the sinlight on plain sight, bearing a lantern. "What are you looking for"? People asked. "An honest man".
If there is Heaven or Hell, he is still searching.
I have come across (sometimes open) Conflict of Interest on science since I have started the medicine course — on 1982. Examples run alm the way from Scientific Initiation until I wrote a metanalisis (I have never reached Cochrane's standards)
As a child, adolescent and adult, it would a lie to deny I have ever lied. As Conflicts of Interest, al colours of lie — from white to black — are commonplace. Humans lie even… for love reasons.
This is a very serious work about the subject. And also… I laughed out loud on occasion.
I have seen most of the instances he describes in action. And maybe I know a few very different ones. But the way he fundamented his research is the best of the book.
I will give you the same hint he gives. Be responsible to your lies, as you will most probably have them return to you — in some way or another. Never tell your wife her food is excellent, or she is beautiful and dressed well (or corresppnding white lies for men) — if you are not considering the medium to long time effect. You may not enjoy hypertension resulting from years of salty food. But in old age, you may continue loving your partner even though they're not beautiful.

Insightful review
Revisado: 12-27-23
Audio: clear and easy. I am Brazilian, have C2+ English and could listen clearly on a room with medium noise
Content: humorous, comprehensible, clear. The author goes beyond teaching “pure” economics (on a mathematic, material sense) to comment on factors like personal psychology of economic agent. Not a course on Macroeconomics, but good insight and sound advice. An interesting review for those who care about their economy and economic education.

Historia
Hardly a day goes by that we don’t hear about someone committing a violent, reprehensible, even evil, act. And each time it happens, before we know anything about the circumstances, we are already sure of one thing: We are nothing like that perpetrator. But how can we be so sure? After all, we are all human. In Understanding the Dark Side of Human Nature, Professor Daniel Breyer takes us on a fascinating philosophical journey into many of the deepest and darkest questions that have engaged humanity for millennia.

NARRATION: great, with clean voice, no background sounds and easy rhythm. I am Brazilian native with C2 near-native English, and could listen and understand every lecture with up to X1.5-1.6, through iphone with a small sound box, in an environment of light noise.
CONTENT: Inciting and sober. Clear, concise and progressive meaning and thought. Careful presenting of opinion and facts. Very relevant both to personal and professional life.

A revolutionary system to get one per cent better every day. People think when you want to change your life, you need to think big. But world-renowned habits expert James Clear has discovered another way. He knows that real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions – doing two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call. He calls them atomic habits.

A methodological suite to “The Power of Habits”
Revisado: 09-17-23
I did not know this as someone indicated this audiobook, but it builds up on the knowledge summed up on Charles Duhigg, as the author mentioned; I suggest reading it. Both books ground on rather traditional knowledge, since Pavlov’s, updated, concise, made available in short texts and methodologically expressed. If you enjoy psychology and wish to enhance your experience on the “how come”, just do some research about Pavlov’s dogs, learning theory and experimental psychology. Of course it is not “all of it”, but the simple truth is that we humans like all animals can be conditioned, using the very same methods, just extended. Read both books and you learn some easy techniques you can apply to yourself, to a well intended friend or mutually. Extend this knowledge with some research about (good) leadership theory and body language, and you will have a better understanding of your life in the workplace, and have instruments of manage
your work team if you are in such a position. Learn some positive psychology and behavior techniques, and you might be able to follow those therapeutic techniques for yourself and even help fellows with the help of a professional.

Revisado: 09-17-23
Audio: easy and clear. I am Brazilian, have ALTE C2 proficiency, and could hear most of the audio at 1.2 speed in a medium-noise context (home & kitchen with external noise)
Content: Comprehensive and systematic. The author walks us through practically 100% of modern neuro-cognition science, and gives us sound suggestions at each chapter. There are recapitulations at the end of the chapter and a short
review at the end.
I recommend the book to any learner/studier, especially if you are fond of authonomous studying.

Sound science with some enjoyment
Revisado: 05-28-23
The book is certainly not exactly what the "fancy" title suggests :-).
It is actual science, based on behavioural analysis and worth a thought for you in all human relationships: If you're casually at a bar, a medic professional who is careful about what info you are conveying to your patient (and what truths you're getting), discussing with your significamt one, avoiding the worst in a traffic misunderstanding, or simply spending some fun time with friends. The fact is, body language will tell you some special "words", no matter what.
Use this knowledge with ethics, add a pint of emotional control, and you may be rewarded with a more
peaceful way out of conflicts.
Use it with a pint of evil insteead? You might get something out of it, if your partner is inattentive and naïve. Or you might not.
I shoult tell you a story: My earlier boss has tried it with me once; not only she (yes, it was "she", and I am "he") did nod succeed. I managed to force it out of it, and — to my surprise — one of the people present suddenly cried: "She's trying to 'read' him!". So it unexpectedly backfired.
Mind you, this is not the first book about the topic I read; and also, body language has strong cultural influences. But bad morals are not that difficult to pick out if you're attentive to it.

Historia
We have all pondered seemingly unanswerably but significant questions about our existence - the biggest of all being, "Why are we here?" Philosophy has developed over millennia to help us grapple with these essential intangibles. There is no better way to study the big questions in philosophy than to compare how the world's greatest minds have analyzed these questions, defined the terms, and then reasoned out potential solutions. Once you've compared the arguments, the final step is always deciding for yourself whether you find an explanation convincing.

It's not that all the information is new: mainly, the author gives new perspective to known questions. Youncan go back to the originals and check the quots, agrree or disagree. Or youncan have picked/pock some of your own. Lively, homourous, contemporaneous.

Historia
The science of emotion is in the midst of a revolution on par with the discovery of relativity in physics and natural selection in biology. Leading the charge is psychologist and neuroscientist Lisa Feldman Barrett, whose research overturns the long-standing belief that emotions are automatic, universal, and hardwired in different brain regions. Instead, Barrett shows, we construct each instance of emotion through a unique interplay of brain, body, and culture.

A full conceptual map of the brain
Revisado: 08-09-22
More than telling us about emotions, the author gradually buids up a blueprint of how the brain works, uses Languages, then creates its own—as well as a collective—version of the outside world.
Based on polymatic and solid scientific views, basic science and concepts, after the book you not only will have a better knowledge of how the brain creates emotions. You will also be able to understand your own, and perceive ans empathise with other people emotions.
The book goes far beyond the title, it gives us ideas with wich we can build up our own Emotional Intelligence. As a bonus, it also gives us insight into animal—both wild and homely pet's behaviour.

Historia
The world-renowned philosopher and author of the best-selling Justice explores the central question of our time: What has become of the common good? World-renowned philosopher Michael J. Sandel argues that to overcome the crises that are upending our world, we must rethink the attitudes toward success and failure that have accompanied globalization and rising inequality. Sandel shows the hubris a meritocracy generates among the winners and the harsh judgment it imposes on those left behind, and traces the dire consequences across a wide swath of American life.

Uncomfortable narration
Revisado: 02-20-22
Narration has a tone and ruthm so uneven so uneven stumbling that I it was uncomfortable to hear. Either the voice tone of the narrator or some faerire in the quality of recording made hearing quite uncomfortable. I tries several record speeds and it was so bad I coul not quite follow the lone of thought of the book. Too many emotional tone and vocal inflextion for an objective theme? I don't know, first time I heard that narrator. I stopped then will try to read the book without audio.
