Historia
Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the infamous case of January Jacobs, who was discovered in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist. But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

Twisty and well written
Revisado: 01-19-25
Good story, well written, twisty plot line. Her extensive true crime knowledge is evident and helps tie everything together.

Kinda Meh
Revisado: 02-02-24
I had high hopes for this but it was a bit of a let down. The relationships in the story are cute and sweet but the rest of the story is pretty predictable and basic. The solution to the “problem” that needs to be solved was so obvious so early on that it was disappointing and difficult to believe that it took the characters so long to figure out. Then once they finally did, the way it was all wrapped up was very anticlimactic and predictable. I could have chalked it up to being just a cute, yet basic story, but for me, the narrator pushed it into annoying and made it hard to want to listen to the end. The voice was a bit annoying and in my opinion, and didn’t sound accurate for the age of the main characters or the time it was written in. It kept making me feel like I was listening to something from a very long time ago with much older characters. The recipes were a bit annoying to listen to over audiobook, but would probably be ok if I was reading an actual book. Some of them sounded yummy though so if I have to listen to them in the audio version I wish they would have at least provided a pdf for us to be able to see and make them like you’d be able to do in a book format. I don’t think this was a complete waste of time, but I was a bit disappointed and I do think it would be better in physical form.

Historia
From the woman who is credited for launching what we know as the celebrity focused, “brand” driven, social media obsessed popular culture of today, comes an honest and surprising memoir that reckons with that truth, and shows that there is so much more to Paris Hilton than you might believe. This extended edition includes a bonus chapter detailing her motherhood journey.

Heartbreakingly honest and raw.
Revisado: 01-15-24
I laughed and I cried and I related on so many levels that I couldn’t have expected. I’ve always been very indifferent to Paris. She’s only a few years older than me so I was very aware of who she was especially in the early 2000s. But I didn’t love her or dislike her. I read this after hearing bits of her story about Provo Canyon School, and I am so glad I did. I am no longer indifferent to the famous celebrity that I felt I had to interest or connection to.

Just ok.
Revisado: 10-22-23
I wanted to love it. It’s very slow, I powered through hoping for it to get a better flow, but it didn’t happen. I didn’t completely hate it. But I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it either. Reviews on good reads are very similar to mine, so I don’t think it was just me.
