Enjoyed the story but not the daughter's narration

This is my first Joe Lansdale book. I was expecting horror but did not find it. Instead, this is a humorous and heart warming story. I really enjoyed the characters of Jane and Henry. The were quirky and endearing. I think this would make an amazing movie. The narrator (who happens to be is daughter) was not very good. I look forward to more of Lansdale's novels but I'll try reading them next time.

3.5 rounded up - This was a solid story. Definitely creepy and unsettling. I bought the audible on sale. It wasn't bad but I think reading it would have been much better. I really liked the ending.

The premise of this book intrigued me. Top that with Brick being one of my favorite authors and I was excited about this story. I once said that I’d listen to Scott Brick read the back of a cereal box and I can now say that would have been more enjoyable. This story is a mess and there is way, way too much filler. I didn’t like the lead character at all. Brick is the only reason I pushed through and finished the story at all. Even Scott couldn’t save this book but I’ll give it 2 stars instead of 1 because of him.

I have tried this 3 times now. I kept hoping I just wasn't in the frame of mind. This third time I suffered three hours and I just cannot continue. This sounded like such a great story. I am a lover of time travel and the butterfly effect. This may be the most boring book that I have read/listened as an adult. I can't torture myself any longer.

The story is disjointed. I think I rewound more in this 2 hour audible than I have in any other "book". The first act was odd and the second more emotional for me. I liked the second act much more than the first. Still, the listener gets pieces and no wholes. No conclusion. The reader can decide that for themselves. I doubt I could listen to this format for a long time but it is every effective for a short 2 hour piece. I thought the performance by both narrators to be superb and would highly recommend it for that reason alone. I'll be looking for more narration by both.

Another Lutzke winner

This is a reread for me. I recently discovered that an audio had been released for this title. I have every Lutzke book, e-book and audible so this was a must buy. I have been in love with his writing ever since I read Of Flies and Foster Homes. Lutzke's writing is not embellished. It's simplicity is refreshing and he says so much more in those fewer words than novels twice the size. I have a child with severe anxiety so there is a special place in my heart for people that don't feel as though they belong. My heart hurt for Levi and the purity that Levi maintains while on his journey leaves me at a loss for words. Skullface Boy touches me deeply and I again applaud the purity that Lutzke maintains while his characters face rather unrealistic odds. Like Of Foster Homes and Flies, Skullface Boy is a quick read. You can walk away from it simply enjoying the story or you can walk away with a deeper meaning beneath the surface of the words. Either way - the book/story is beautiful.

I tend to shy away from Patterson and his "label". I am glad I took a chance on this one. All the narrators performed well and Quinto was perfect.

This was an story that was brought to life by the two female narrators. The male narrator, on the other hand, was painful to listen to - saliva smacks, inhaling at improper times, etc. It was bad enough that I almost quit the book. I didn't. The story was kept me entertained enough but I won't remember much of it in a few weeks. Glad it was on sale.

A Mother's Love was the only story in this collection that I truly loved. King, Ketchum and Poe's stories were also good but the narrators didn't work for me. I bought this on sale so I guess I got enough for my money.

This one is hard to review. It is way outside my typical genres of horror and fantasy. What Jonah Knew showed up on an audible sale and I noted that Kirby Heyborne was one of the narrators and I made an impulse purchase. There was a lot in the story that annoyed me. First being that Heyborne narrated very little. Second being that the female narrator was extremely over dramatic most of the time. And third being the saturation of Buddhist beliefs.

This book is listed as a thriller but I couldn’t really see that until the last few hours perhaps. There were no twists or surprises for me. The story was fairly straight forward and as I expected. What Jonah Knew is more of a story about dealing with grief in my opinion. So as much as the above things irked me, there were many moments that touched me deeply. The last hour or so especially had me in silent tears. The loss of a child is my biggest fear and this book hit hard. The author tied the story up in a manner that allowed me to forgive the lack of Heyborne narration. The female narrator justified herself in the last few hours. I am glad for the experience I had with this book and round up from 3.5 stars.
