Fabulous!!!
Revisado: 02-19-24
I found this book fascinating. My mother grew up in Exning, England directly across the street from one of the American airfields and I heard stories that mirrored this book all my life. Stories of planes coming in on fire, a wing missing here and there, shot to pieces and sometimes even witnessed them crash. Her stories were mesmerizing to me and I always struggled to believe it was really my mom that was telling the stories. One that stuck out the most was when she and a couple of siblings twice had been walking to school and were strafed by a German fighter. They literally had to dive off the road into the ditch. It was right out of a movie to me. She also had a brother that died in the London bombings. Once I read this book it all came home to me and made that war much more personal. I have a great appreciation for those pilots and all of the servicemen that inevitably allowed me to live my life with the freedom I treasure so much. I can never thank them enough. This is the story of a generation of men and women that carried on in the face of fear I cannot imagine. This book was written very well. So well that I just started my second reading this week. It's a must read. You'll love it.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Outstandingly written. I loved this book.
Revisado: 01-04-24
I found this book to be so poignant. A tragic life that was continually beating him down yet proof that perseverance prevails. I loved how plainly he spoke and the way he described everything. This is a must read and I encourage everyone to read it. You won’t be disappointed.

Historia
In 1822, a secret family moves into a secret cabin some thirty miles northeast of Baltimore, to farm, to hide, and to bear ten children over the course of the next sixteen years. Junius Booth—breadwinner, celebrated Shakespearean actor, and master of the house in more ways than one—is at once a mesmerizing talent and a man of terrifying instability. One by one the children arrive, as year by year, the country draws frighteningly closer to the boiling point of secession and civil war.

Outstanding
Revisado: 11-19-22
This book was well written and engaging. I enjoyed it immensely. It is a fascinating look at not only John Wilkes Booth but about his family and the lives of them all that certainly were influential in the man that Mr Booth became. A must read.

Easy Listening- But Far Fetched.
Revisado: 05-14-21
The main character gets more unlikeable each book. I enjoy the story, and other characters, but Carly annoys me. Every little thing sets her off, and she is instantly offended by the slightest thing. It is also ridiculous that the town has just accepted her as a private investigator even though they don’t know her, and she has absolutely no background or credentials in it.

She's got two men: her husband, who's easing out the back door; and her best friend, who's laying siege to her heart in her front yard. The characters were extremely unlikeable. Narrator was a little over the top. Couldn’t root for anyone (including the little girl) because they were all just kind of nasty people.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Historia
Lucy Bowman would never have guessed that her best friend, Duffy McCready (of McCready’s Bait Shop & Funeral Home) has been in love with her since they were kids. Fear of rejection and his own romantic complications prevented Duffy from confessing his true feelings in high school, so he stood by and watched her wed Wayne Garten right after high school. Wayne had always been a cheapskate, so it comes as no surprise when he suffers a fatal accident while fixing his own truck.

Good book, staying close to the series. I didn't love the main character Lucy. I feel she just wasn't that likeable. I love this series enough though so that didn't ruin the book for me.
