Interesting concept
Revisado: 08-09-24
Overall, a good book. I enjoyed the way the moral delimma was presented. The concept of salvation seemed a little rushed and shallow in places, in order to present it multiple times.

Historia
It was a crime that shocked the nation: the brutal murder in Chicago in 1924 of a child by two wealthy college students who killed solely for the thrill of the experience. Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb were intellectuals - too smart, they believed, for the police to catch them. When they were apprehended, state's attorney Robert Crowe was certain that no defense could save the ruthless killers from the gallows.

Great story, unsuitable narrator
Revisado: 04-28-21
I found this book very interesting, but the narrator was not right for it. He is far too dramatic for the book. I nearly gave up on listening to it a few times due to that.

Historia
For the first time, the full story of a crime that has haunted New England since 1873. The cold-blooded ax murder of two innocent Norwegian women at their island home off the coast of New Hampshire has gripped the region since 1873, beguiling tourists, inspiring artists, and fueling conspiracy theorists. The killer, a handsome Prussian fisherman down on his luck, was quickly captured, convicted in a widely publicized trial, and hanged in an unforgettable gallows spectacle.

Very interesting history/true crime book
Revisado: 02-17-21
I came across this book while listening to a podcast that the author was on, and was excited to find the book on audible. This book is just as much a history book as a true crime book. The book was well researched and the information given in a way that was easy to understand. My heart broke for Marin! I didn't a little reverse genealogy when I finished reading it and found that John and Marin has several descendants living today through their daughter. I'm glad that this brave woman had a legacy.

Historia
On October 24, 1890, a woman's mutilated and lifeless body was discovered on a pile of rubbish in Hampstead, North London. Her arms were lacerated, her face crushed and bloodied, and her head almost completely severed from her body. A mile away a blood-soaked stroller was found leaning against a residential gate. The dead baby's body, hidden beneath a nettle bush, was not located until the following morning. So began the incredible story of the Hampstead Tragedy.

Revisado: 04-20-20
Very interesting book if you are interested in history, medical history or even your own family history. It really made me think about some issues that I have had that I have been able to trace back at least 4 generations. The only reason that I gave it a 4 out 5 stars is political references. I just don't think they belong in a book like this.

Historia
What would you do if you knew a child who was being abused? If that child was a member of your family? Would you call the authorities and have the child taken away, or would you turn a blind eye? These are the kind of questions that Lost in Thought provokes. The author, who lived through the atrocities mentioned in this audiobook, paints a vivid if disturbing image of child abuse and how it affects the psyche as one grows older. What begins as abuse leads quickly to suicidal thoughts and loss of control.

Great story and amazing woman. It's hard to imagine the situation that these women were put into, but it shows such a sense of what the human spirit can endure. Nice, short book, but informative about a time and place I know little about. Marcia's letters help you learn what her personality was like. Overall good book. Historia
The horrific and disturbing nature of these stories often makes you question everything you thought or believed about humanity. Yet they are engaging and fascinating at the same time. We all had evil thoughts throughout our lives. What is it that makes us different from those who actually act upon it? Is it the act alone? These are questions that many ask themselves, and these stories will help dig into the elements and psychology behind some of the most terrifying killers in history.

Interesting Short Reviews of Crimes
Revisado: 08-12-19
This is a good set for the person who is looking for more crimes to research in depth or who only like to get a basic overview of crimes. I'm a true crime junkie, and many of these I had never heard of before. It's nearly written in an essay style, so it is blanket facts on the cases, no other dialog. The narrator does fine with the subject matter he has been given. I don't think he has been narrating long, but he has a nice voice that is easy to listen to.
Overall good book. I enjoyed listening to it. I received a complementary copy of this book for a fair and honest review.
