Historia
Captain Iain Sinclair has looks, charm, military honours—even the favour of the king himself. He has everything—everything, that is, except the friendship of the one man whose good opinion he has ever cared for, scientist, James Hart. James has loved Iain all his life, but after the last disastrous encounter between them, he vowed to accept no more crumbs from Iain’s table. If Iain cannot be the lover James wants, then James will have no more to do with him.

Historical Friends to Lovers
Revisado: 12-09-24
Now, this really shouldn't be compared to the epic three-part love story of David and Murdo, but because it is a related story in the same world, it also can't surpass their tale. It's a bit unfair, but there it is.
However, this is a lovely historical romance, elevated by an even lovelier narration by Simon Goldhill. Book is a solid 3.75, narration is 5 stars. I will likely revisit this audiobook when I need a soothing voice to tell me a hopeful tale.
Iain is a bit frustrating, James is a literal angel cinnamon roll, and I could have used an epilogue that gave us a glimpse of them in the future, but was still very enjoyable. Champing at the bit for the next book to be released on audio soon!

Kudos, Standing Ovation, Throw Roses On The Stage
Revisado: 08-03-24
This was a re-read for me, but I got just as swept up and invested this time round, thanks in large part to Simon Goldhill's wonderful narration. I'm so happy he was contracted to do the whole series, and would listen to him read the phone book. Definitely a favorite, and I believe Chambers has him slated to read at least a couple more of her backlist titles, which I will assuredly be purchasing.
This is a rivals to lovers where you actually believe that they believe they don't like each other, even though there is chemistry from the start. I love a scrappy working class hero, and Tag really is scraping by while trying to follow his dreams and help support his family. Jay is from the privileged elite, and it is their class differences that are the starkest contrast that make any sort of relationship between the two seem difficult at best and impossible at worst.
The process of them rehearsing the play, learning to trust each other, and eventually the forced proximity does its work was lovely to see . . . these are flawed characters who mess up, but recognize their faults and failings and try to atone. I was passingly familiar with Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon from some college literature courses in the dim and distant past, but this book has inspired me to go back (lol) and revisit some of their poems and learn more about their relationship.
All in all, this is a fantastic, nuanced story told with equal nuance and sensitivity from a wonderful narrator. You really can't lose!

From the outside, it looks like model and influencer Mason Nash has it all—beauty, fame, and fortune. With his star rapidly rising, and a big contract up for grabs, Mason’s on the verge of hitting the big time. When an opportunity arises to co-host a gardening slot on daytime TV with his ex’s brother, Owen Hunter, Mason is definitely on-board. And he intends to use every trick in the book to make the show a hit—including agreeing to his ruthless producer’s demand to fake a ‘will-they/won’t-they’ romance with his co-host…

Love Grows
Revisado: 04-09-24
This was a breath of fresh air. Originally, I actually read this before the first book in the series, but immediately went back to read Aaron and Lewis's story.
This is a slight twist on the fake dating trope in that they are already aware of each other and are intrigued, but haven't really been thrown together much. So, instead of their relationship being allowed to grow organically (lol), they then start working with each other almost immediately, and the waters get very muddied indeed. I liked how honest Mason (mostly) was about how he had to publicize aspects of their relationship, while still trying to let Owen know he really does like him. This book didn't follow the typical beats, but made sense to me. It was more, “How much of this is real/how much of my heart am I willing to risk?”
Having both characters getting to know each other while we get to know them worked really well and I was pretty enthralled (which is not a word I use often to describe my reading experience.) I must admit I also like seeing the evil industry types get their comeuppance in these books . . . very cathartic.
Simon Goldhill is a wonderful narrator, with a casual style that has a lot of emotion behind it. Mason is deliberately given a couple of different intonations, which matches his character putting on a shallow/cheery front to hide his more complicated past with hidden depths. And Owen is more consistent, as is to be expected of someone so solid and straightforward.
I was eagerly awaiting this audio version ever since I listened to the first one, and now I am fairly feral for the audio for the third book, which was narrowly my favorite of the series. Fingers crossed that it also gets an audiobook soon!

Historia
When fanfic writer Aaron Page landed a temp job with the creator of hit TV show, Leeches, it was only meant to last a week. Three years later, Aaron’s still there. It could be because he loves the creative challenge. It could be because he’s a huge Leeches fanboy. It’s definitely not because of Lewis Hunter, his extremely demanding, staggeringly rude...and breathtakingly gorgeous boss.

Wonderful workplace romance
Revisado: 03-26-23
I read this last year, but when I saw an audiobook was available, I decided to revisit it. I really liked this one when I read it, even though I don’t always love grumpy characters as much as some, bc they just seem too mean. Lewis is mean, but because we see him through Aaron’s eyes, we also see what is good about him and that made me really like him in a way I’m sure I wouldn’t have in less capable hands. (I also think that having Charlie in the mix shows us that, comparatively, Lewis is a gem, lol)
Re-reading via audiobook, I'm revising my rating up to five. The audiobook narrator was exceptional. He brought so much to the already well-crafted characters, it was almost like reading it for the first time. I got mad at Lewis and cried and felt all the feelings even more than the first time.
I'm really sad there's only one other book he's recorded (under this name, I suppose there could be more,) but I have all my fingers and toes crossed that he is currently recording book 2 in this series because I loved that one even more when I read it last summer. I will definitely be returning to this story again in future.

Old school romance vibes
Revisado: 11-18-22
Jem is a gem; Cador is a fool, and both are narrated wonderfully by Michael Ferraiuolo.
Alternately fun and emotionally harrowing, I'll admit it took me longer than usual to finish this. Mainly because I knew this was heading for a cliffhanger, and I wanted to prolong the inevitable break that would lead into the second volume (which I made sure to purchase so I'm ready to start that soon and continue the adventures.)

A great start to the holiday season
Revisado: 11-14-22
One of my favorite writers narrated by one of my favorite narrators - it really couldn't miss.
It's not a perfect book, but definitely pulls in a lot of the notes KA likes to hit (and what makes me love) her holiday books. It's a spin-off from The Christmas Deal which is also a 4.5 star book I've read/listened to multiple times. It's got friends to lovers, getting stranded in the cold, fake dating, unexpected trips to Australia which feature ANOTHER cameo couple from another book. Is it revolutionary and next level? No. Did I want it to be? Not really. I wanted cozy and feels and this delivered. Also, there are strong demi vibes from Will, and I'm actually okay that he didn't feel the need to get all his labels figured out on day one of their relationship.
I read this as an ebook first, then was happy to revisit it almost immediately as an audiobook, and will absolutely return to this during future holiday seasons.

On my last stakeout for Quest Investigations, I nearly got clotheslined by a grove of angry dryads. I expected my bosses to reprimand me, but instead they handed me my first solo assignment. Me! Matt Steinitz, the only human on the Quest roster! Okay, so the mission isn’t exactly demanding. Obviously, the bosses wanted to give me something they think I can’t screw up. I’m determined to show them what I can do, however, so I dive right in with no complaints.

The narrator really sold me on this slightly wacky and over the top paranormal world, the only downside is that I need to wait for the rest of the books to be recorded, because I think I can only listen to the rest of these now I've started this way.

Character-driven romance
Revisado: 06-06-22
Lucien, in particular, is very finely drawn and I felt most connected to and affected by his emotional arc. There are some tough things in this book, but because Lord Rossingley is used to putting a good face on things, the terrible things are often softened by humor.
It's a very British story, and the narrator did a great job with the airy posh tones of Lucien and the Midlands round the edges Jay, still conveying a lot of subtle emotion and inflection in each character. And his French accent was both recognizable and just barely there in a way that makes me hope he'll narrate the next one, too.
While it's not a perfect book, it created big emotions that felt real to me. I teared up a couple of times when in Lucien's POV; it's not every rich bloke you can make me empathize with. I wish we'd gotten to see some of Jay's working out of his predicaments, but there was enough groundwork laid that I could imagine how they would play out. (And I've heard that we see more of these two in the background of Book Two, so I'm even more excited to check that one out.
I also enjoyed the various sides of Lucien and how Jay could see how he'd shift in and out of his roles as the situation required, but knew that there was someone who needed love underneath them all.
