Historia
John Plaster’s riveting account of his covert activities as a member of a special operations team during the Vietnam War is “a true insider’s account...this eye-opening report will leave readers feeling as if they’ve been given a hot scoop on a highly classified project” (Publishers Weekly). Code-named the Studies and Observations Group, SOG was the most secret elite US military unit to serve in the Vietnam War - so secret that its very existence was denied by the government.

My first but not my last
Revisado: 06-04-24
I did not know about the SOG. In listening to the book I was greatly moved. What these men went through was amazing to say the least. I was moved to tears when it came to an end. Even now as I'm writing this review tears are still welling up from my eyes. How any of these brave men servived is beyond me. Mr. John Plaster put together such a great story and the narrator, Arthur Morey did a fantastic job. If you really want to know about the secret war of Vietnam then don't hesitate to download the book. You want be disappointed.

Historia
No espionage missions have been kept more secret than those involving American submarines. Now, Blind Man's Bluff shows for the first time how the navy sent submarines wired with self-destruct charges into the heart of Soviet seas to tap crucial underwater telephone cables. It unveils how the navy's own negligence might have been responsible for the loss of the USS Scorpion, a submarine that disappeared, all hands lost, 30 years ago.

Historia
On November 6, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the fluky victor in a tight race for president. The country was bitterly at odds; Southern extremists were moving ever closer to destroying the Union, with one state after another seceding and Lincoln powerless to stop them. Slavery fueled the conflict, but somehow the passions of North and South came to focus on a lonely federal fortress in Charleston Harbor: Fort Sumter.

I'm a big fan of Erick Larson. When Amazon put this book on their website a month before it was released I jumped on it. I've listened to all of his books and will again. However, this book came up short in so many ways. I'm not going to berate Erick Larson anymore than I have. He's one of my favorite authors. I will be waiting again for his next book.

Historia
The dust storms that terrorized the High Plains in the darkest years of the Depression were like nothing ever seen before or since. Following a dozen families and their communities through the rise and fall of the region, Timothy Egan tells of their desperate attempts to carry on through blinding black dust blizzards, crop failure, and the death of loved ones. Brilliantly capturing the terrifying drama of catastrophe, he does equal justice to the human characters who become his heroes.

Astounding!
Revisado: 04-17-24
I have heard of the stock market crash and the great depression and that of the dust bowl. But the mural painting by Mr. J.L. Plaster will be always etched on the wall of my mind. The paste colors are faint first then different shades of grey and then a burst of darkness envelopes your soul. You fight its grasp that holds you tight as a piano wire. You wrestle down it's wall in the hallway then bounce upon the floor as you fall. You try to stand but the dark weight is ever too heavy. You must claw your way out. Claw deep until claws bleed. Darkness opens just a swilt to see what's left. Tennessee, Oklahoma, and the Texas panhandle lay in ruin. You look through sandy eyes to sandy looms that reach ten feet and beyond. You see those who weathered the storm somehow. The dust hindered on legs upward to the heavens blocking out the sun. You see how they clawed the ground putting in seed for corn and African grass that supposedly could stand the summer heat and laugh until the hoppers gnawed the roots until nothing was there to fingerprint it's existence. The temperature reached a hundred and thirteen degrees and some reaching a hundred and seventeen degrees. A farmer put his thermometer on the ground and found the temperature a hundred and forty degrees. If you think me a liar then listen to this book and apologize to me later. The narrator is so great that at times I thought he was sitting in a chair next to me. Take this audio book to a place of solitude with a drink in one hand and a big bowl of popcorn in the other, then lock the door. You're about to tunnel a past of ninety five years. Hold on. It's a turbulence journey.

Revisado: 05-29-23
This book was wonderful to say the least. I was amazed concerning the commentary and how much history he brought out regarding the heroes of days passed and how it brought Romans to life. I will get his next three volumes to finish out the series. No doubt about it! If you’ve never read anything by Mr, Boice do it now! You won’t regret it. The narrator,John Lescault did an exceptional job. The narrator can make or break a good book. I’ve never heard him before and was thoroughly pleased by his reading style. I loved it.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Revisado: 04-16-23
I have read / listened to many books concerning to pass wars but none has moved me more than this book / story of one man who survived atrocities unbelievable to mortal men. Such is my life under different circumstances in my childhood of horror. I don’t speak of that time to many. But I have forgiven the man who inflected me as a young boy still caring those scars today. I wanted so much to tell him that I had forgiven him. But it was not to be. He had died to my great sorrow. I carried those memories for decades. If only I had gone sooner to tell him of my forgiveness. Don’t let time pass before you to can forgive those who wronged you. I know I shall listen to this book again and again. I pray you will too.

Historia
The U.S. Constitution was approved by the Constitutional Convention on September 17, 1787. It was to become law only if it was ratified by nine of the 13 states. New York was a key state, but it contained strong forces opposing the Constitution. A series of 85 letters appeared in New York City newspapers between October 1787 and August 1788 urging support for the Constitution. These letters remain the first and most authoritative commentary on the American concept of federal government.

Historia
For the first four months of 1942, U.S., Filipino, and Japanese soldiers fought what was America's first major land battle of World War II, the battle for the tiny Philippine peninsula of Bataan. It ended with the surrender of 76,000 Filipinos and Americans, the single largest defeat in American military history. The defeat, though, was only the beginning, as Michael and Elizabeth M. Norman make dramatically clear in this powerfully original book.

I can't say enough about this book . From beginning to end the book held my attention. I knew something about the Bataan Death March but never got into the details. This audiobook changed that and filled in the gaps. l'm sure I'll listen to it again down the road. The authors must have taken years to compose all the facts and information concerning both sides of the story. I praise them both.
