I really enjoyed this. The narrator took me maybe a chapter to get used to but I did enjoy her style and pace. The book itself was informative and, I thought, well rounded. It gave me a good understanding of that time in French history and as someone who is more familiar with British history of the same time, I found this book fascinating. The author draws from Marguerite’s own autobiography, old letters etc. and so it also feels intimate.

I enjoyed the story, the look into Shania Twain’s life. Her childhood struggles, her “making it” and even some of struggles with that. Overall I felt it was a honest telling of someone’s life. However, the narrator didn’t feel like a good fit, unfortunately. In hindsight, I probably would have enjoyed this one better if I’d read the paper copy.

As always, Jones writes in a way that is not only well researched and informative but easy to follow and entertaining.

Listening to this felt more than just listening to a memoir. It felt like listening to a friend, telling me the story of his life.

I liked it. It was informative and detailed but not to the point of being too wordy. This is the first book about Catherine de Medici that I’ve listened to, so I can’t say for sure, but I felt it gave a balanced look into her life.
The narrator was pleasant, her speed and pronunciation clear and easy to listen to.

I liked that Joan told her story with enough detail to keep things interesting but not so much to be scandalous or gossipy.

I enjoyed listening to this book that, for once, doesn’t vilify Wallis. Her story is remarkable, some of is happy and some of it anything but. The book doesn’t seek out to scandalize or reveal new gossipy details, but rather examines that which has always been there for us to know from a perspective of “hang on, maybe it wasn’t all her fault”.

Though I already admired Wallis before, this book made me do so more. Wallis’ perseverance and determination to make the best of a situation, even when the world was against her, is exemplary.

I have 'Singing Songs' both as the book and the audiobook. It was a lot harder to listen to the story than it was to read. And while I hesitate to say I *enjoyed* listening to 'Singing Songs' (as the subject is a very painful one) I'm glad I did.

I've been singing the praises of the book/audiobook to all my friends. Yes, at times it's hard to read, but it's supposed to be. Child abuse is not a matter that anyone should be able to brush aside. I had to take breaks and give myself time to digest what I'd heard, but each time, I felt compelled to return to hear more of Anna's remarkable story.

Meg Tilly giving her own voice not only to the words but the heart as well makes this a very special audiobook.
