Very different but worth a listen
Revisado: 10-24-22
Written more like a romance novel, this will probably appeal more to women than men. I like that Ian Fleming went outside the box and wrote a book from the perspective of the Bond girl. It captures the whirlwind of the cold hearted spy coming to the rescue of a pretty naive woman and what that looks like through her eyes. I’m in the process of listening to them all in order and, while it is not my favorite of the Bond books, it is definitely worth listening to.

Wish I hadn’t bothered
Revisado: 04-08-22
The narrator is great. No problems with his talent. The 3 stories were just ok. Not terribly realistic and a little too “manly” for me. Plenty of sex and cocaine in the first 2 stories. The second story was a waste of time. The third (Legends of the Fall) was the best of the 3 but still not that great. I didn’t like any of the main characters in any of the stories. They were all jerks. I was glad when it was over.

Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes.

This book is so good! I rarely see a book or movie sequel that is as good as the first but this is the exception. Very funny and creative! I loved it!

Not quite like the book
Revisado: 02-11-22
The abbreviated storyline is there but it’s like any book that has been turned into a movie - it’s got added sex and drama to appeal to the masses. There is so much added sex in this dramatization that I was rolling my eyes at how ludicrous it was. The actual book has no blatant sex. You have to read between the lines and look hard to find it. The actors did a great job. I have no complaint on that part. I would suggest listening to the actual book though if you want the actual story.

Not great
Revisado: 12-17-21
The characters are well developed, the plot had promise and there were a couole unexpected twists, but it was so unrealistic that I was rolling my eyes half the time. Plus the sex scenes are way too explicit for my taste. The reader needed more variation to differentiate the characters and his British accents sometimes sounded Chinese or non-existent. Plus he didn’t pause between scenes which can be confusing. Not the worst book I’ve ever listened to but certainly not the best.

Historia
Often called the greatest novel ever written, War and Peace is at once an epic of the Napoleonic wars, a philosophical study, and a celebration of the Russian spirit. Tolstoy's genius is clearly seen in the multitude of characters in this massive chronicle, all of them fully realized and equally memorable.

Good book but it wasn’t great
Revisado: 10-19-21
I really wanted to agree with most of the world that War and Peace is the best book ever written, but I can’t. It was good for sure but I have read many other classics that are much more interesting and entertaining (Count of Monte Cristo, Gone with the Wind, Great Expectations to name a few). Tolstoy definitely has a gift for words and detail that brought to life the innermost thoughts and mannerisms of the characters. I really felt like I could picture their expression and experience their emotion. But the story was often lacking in interest. I was only gripped to the core a handful of times which isn’t a lot for 60 hours! I thought the narrator did a wonderful job. The voices were varied enough to know who they were. I think he really captured Pierre the best. I would still recommend everyone to read/listen to this book, I just can’t say it’s the best of all time.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn famously said that one of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming totalitarianism can't happen in their country. Many American Christians are making that mistake today, sleepwalking through the erosion of our freedoms. Live Not by Lies will wake them and equip them for the long resistance.

Very insightful
Revisado: 04-28-21
A lot of information packed into an eye opening book about being aware and prepared for the coming communism in America. The narrator did an excellent job with all the difficult names and phrases. I think I would have preferred reading the actual book since there was so much I wanted to highlight and review again. But listening to it was good enough for now.

Historia
This is the second story in the Anne of Green Gables series. Skinny little red-haired Anne has changed into a pretty 16-year-old and is all grown up - well, sort of grown up. The story opens with Anne as a school teacher at Avonlea school. When Anne reached the school that first morning, she was confronted by prim rows of "shining morning faces". She had sat up until nearly midnight composing a speech which she had revised and improved painstakingly. It was a wonderful speech with fine ideas. And then, she couldn't remember it!

It’s just ok
Revisado: 03-22-21
I loved Anne of Green Gables narrated by Rachel McAdams but this story and narration left me feeling blah. I didn’t care for the story line and didn’t really like any of the characters, even Anne. It could have been the way the narrator portrayed them or it could just be that the sequel wasn’t very good. But either way, I was disappointed.

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Narrator portrayed Anne perfectly
Revisado: 03-04-21
The narrator was awesome at capturing Anne’s spirit, enthusiasm and personality. It’s true that the other characters were a little flat and didn’t vary much, but it wasn’t difficult at all to follow who was speaking. It was more important to me that Anne was narrated well because she is the main character and has such a vivacious personality. I wouldn’t listen to any other version!
