the sound quality is garbage
Revisado: 09-22-23
I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks, both independent productions and professional ones. my dad is a freelance audio narrator. so take my word on this when I tell you the sound quality on this production is atrocious. I can barely hear half the time, and then suddenly a course consonant will come booming through the speakers. unbalanced sound, and voices that seem to drift away and then come soaring back. I can't listen in my car AT ALL even on full volume without missing entire chunks of text to the background noise of the road. it's totally unacceptable that a professionally produced audio is this bad. I've never had so many problems with an audiobook before. it's extremely annoying and a huge disappointment. Amazon should take this down. it's that bad. I'm not returning it bc I don't have the time to sit and read, but its a nightmare and ruins the story. fix the bloody damn audio, guys.

good, but doesn't live up to the hype
Revisado: 08-18-23
I don't know what this book is doing in my fantasy romance circle recs. this much closer to the historical fiction or academia genres, neither of which I'm super into. there is nothing wrong with the story. it's enchanting and painfully romantic. it's technically fantasy but it doesn't have the pacing or the action of a typical fantasy, and the fantasy elements are decidedly side elements. they are *so* off to the side, in fact, that you could completely eliminate them and leave 90% of the plot intact. that probably won't remain true for the sequel, but it is true now. I have no issue with YA. I'm a huge fan of it. this is just a classic genre mismatch, and I didn't care for it. The romance is the bulk of the plot, and nothing about it is unexpected, surprising, or suspenseful. that's the entire book. predictable. the prose are gorgeous though. And the narration? perfect. all the people saying to read this if you like fourth wing and SJM are unhinged. it's *nothing* like that. it's a slow-paced romantic pen pal story. thats literally all. and if you go in expecting and wanting that kind of story, you'll love it. as for me, I was lied to by the internet.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

fun, sexy, excitin
Revisado: 08-13-23
I had such a good time with this. I have to admit I was a little nervous about reports that Rebecca had a cold in the recording. I listened on 1.5 speed and its not audible (ha) at that speed. I thought the narration was great. the story was exciting and fun. divergent vibes, but more adult and there are dragons. can't wait for the next one!

a little light on plot
Revisado: 02-20-23
I liked this book a lot, but as the title says, it was a little light on plot. I liked the writing and the story was cute, but I just felt like it didn't go very far. I think that the Torrin chapters were unnecessary and sucked the only source of drama or mystery out of the plot. I believe the next book will be good, and I bet that those 2 books would be better as one story instead of two. overall I just felt like this book was more of an intro than a full novel, but I really like the characters and the world and I'm excited to get more into it.
As for the audio, The narrator did a great job. No notes.

just okay
Revisado: 09-21-21
the narration was on point. but this story is just okay. theres nothing amazing or terrible about it. from the world-building to the character development, this story was across the board average. I thought the sex scenes were kind of laughable, but thats not really a big deal. overall I doubt I'll read anymore of this series unless someone can convince me it gets better.

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods...or monsters. I still can't decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me. Then there's Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn't felt anything for a hundred years.

Cute, fun
Revisado: 08-24-21
This is not earth shattering stuff, but its a cute and fun urban fantasy. vampires, romance, hot supernatural dudes, what's not to like? the long con of the main character is a little exhausting, but it's fine.
The narrator is great and I liked her, but I am taking off an entire star for pronouncing Flo-Rida incorrectly. You're not even going to TRY to figure it out? a quick Google search would have resolved this. I can't believe no one corrected it. It's really annoying and keeps coming up for several minutes of the book. I know that sounds nit picky, but you'll feel differently when you have to hear about flo-reeda for 10 minutes. ick. anyway. the rest was good.

exciting book!
Revisado: 06-24-18
This book was so easy to listen to. The action starts right away and it holds your attention for the entire time. The narrator did a great job of reading the material and making it exciting. I liked all of the characters and it was easy to tell them apart with the different voices without being over the top. Sometimes the story got a little bogged down in the details, but that's only temporary, and hardly a problem. Overall it was really exciting and suspenseful. The end was totally unexpected for me!

Fun read!
Revisado: 06-24-18
I loved this book! The story has a few minor issues, but overall it was really cool! I thought the narration was great. I really liked the voices he did and it was very expressive. I saw another review saying the tempo was slow--I don't agree with that but don't forget you can always change the playback speed in the app. It's really easy, so I don't see this as an issue anyway. Overall it was a really cool story. Stick with it to the end!!
