Historia
From the moment Dara of Westwood spied the Silver Headed Raptor nesting in Rundeval Peak, the precocious redheaded 12-year-old girl was enchanted. The youngest daughter of the Master of the Wood lived in ramshackle Westwood Hall, in the independently minded Westwood estate of Sevendor. Her determination to capture a baby falcon and train it wasn’t hampered by the fact that Dara had never climbed a mountain, had never been trained in falconry, or even remotely had permission from her father to do it.

Spellmonger Sidestories that seem Necessary
Revisado: 08-28-19
Hawkmaiden completely satisfies the thirst of old readers familiar with the Spellmonger series while introducing a younger audience to Lenadara and her trusty companion, Frightful. Terry Mancour is unmatched with his ability to turn a side story not involving the main character, something many would be annoyed or angry with (admittedly, myself included) into a fresh point of view of the people surrounding Minalan and his Journey against the evils of Calador.
Hawkmaiden begins just before Minalan arrives in Sevendor and you are introduced to the condition of the native people from the eyes of a young woman who's whole world is dependent on her family's day to day struggle with the current occupants of Sevendor Castle. This side story was fun and interesting, as they all eventually become when they are released.
I was hesitant when it recieved a YA rating, but fear not, fellow Spellmongers, this book is well done. Finity Williams does a wonderful job, becoming a fresh new voice in the series to accompany John Lee. There were a few pronunciations that dont follow the main series, but all in all it was just what the doctor ordered. I will have no hesitation pulling the trigger on the books in this series regardless of the rating. Thanks Terry! You are such a fantastic storyteller!

**Currently have 14.5/22hrs finished as of 9/29/2018**
I am a Tardis riding, D&D / WoW playing nerd who listens to at least 30hrs a week in the fantasy genre, but the main character of the book even makes me scream "Nerd!". I look like a Varsity QB compared to him. He can be funny and seems to figure out all his problems from thin air with a tiny quip. Other than that, strap yourself in to listen to the inner monologue of a total dweeb. Nick Podehl is, as always, the best voice in fantasy. He manages to give this book life though the supporting characters and moments of action that otherwise would have left me most likely returning this.
That being said, The magic physics/laws are sound and actually refreshing to hear. I appreciate a good system such as Sanderson's Mistborn. the pacing was well done as well as the supporting and tertiary characters. I really enjoy everyone, (besides Corin) even the Book! Hopefully Corin will keep my head from shaking in abhorrence for longer than 15 minutes.

Historia
Having survived the monster, Kohl Obsidian, Wiliam Wilde had hoped his life would settle down - that he'd finish his senior year of high school with no further adventures. But life isn't so simple for a potential magus, especially one who's overcome as deadly an enemy as Kohl. Instead, William has unwittingly earned the raptor gaze of even greater foes.

Davis Ashura is the new master of short fantasy
Revisado: 06-30-18
In the second book of the William Wilde Chronicles, William & Jake find themselves fighting for their lives after being betrayed and brought to the worst place on Earth: Sinskrill. Here the boys find out just how good they have had it up until now. Everyone lies for their own personal gain and relationships are not built on love but necessity. In the meantime, Jason and his Grandfather are busy planning the rescue of William and Jake. Many new and old characters (YOU KNOW WHO!) are introduced and as always, Nick Podehl is there to keep the imagination at peak performance. Plot lines were never incoherent or difficult to follow. I do believe a glossary will need to to be added to Mr. Ashura's website as spellings and definitions would be a massive help with book 2 going into book 3.
Mr. Ashura said he wrote this for his young teenage kids at the time so this series is Young Adult, but a good deal of the situations are as adult as they come. It was half the normal listening time I am used to for the genre, but I don't mean that in a bad way at all. A total run-time of 9 hours and 25 minutes is all this needed to be smart, creative and suspenseful right up until the last chapter. I expect character development and world building in the fantasy genre today to extend books in the genre into the 700+ pages realm but somehow Davis Asura delivers a perfectly executed mid series book at 356 pages... it really is remarkable. At this point, I have read everything he has published and it is a good indication that I will be reading whatever he creates for years to come.
Book 3 we are all in for a WILDE ride! (see what I did there) Lord **** cometh!
Keep up the great work Davis!

1st trip into Grimdark Fantasy, wont be back.
Revisado: 05-26-18
Shocked at the character Jezal ended up being. this felt less like a plausible ending and more like an effort to construct the extreme anti hero. Once his story ended, you knew exactly how everything else was going to play out. AND THEN it gets even worse. Even if the characters return I want nothing to do with it. Perfect for Misogynist's or people who generally hate the good guy. Abandon all hope.

Revisado: 04-17-18
The Lies of Locke Lamorra was fantastic. It was a damn fun ride to be part of the crew and each and every game locke had running was thoroughly incredible. the combination of an ancient city with magical hints accompanied by the caste system was beautifully done. Hats off to Scott Lynch.

Sanderson is perfect for this
Revisado: 03-18-18
Wow. Sanderson cut out all of the bullshit that Jordan drones on about in all the 10 previous books. thank the light that Harriet McDougal left it to him. there's an irony to it all in my opinion. Jordan making this series so bloated that he actually died before he could finish it when it could have bee. completed if he didnt go so crazy with the tertiary characters. all in all, this book was wonderfully done, and Sanderson is an absolute mastermind of battle scenes and conveying just the perfect amount of emotion. I am more excited for the final 2 books because they were sanderson and not Jordan. it may sound like terrible but it needed to be said.

so much description!
Revisado: 02-26-18
that could have been finished in 20 chapters except i had to read every single back story for characters we dont care about. close to $50 dollars without credits is insane. he consistently brings everything to a crescendo in one chapter that you would think there would be a better build up.
still, we got Mat back and he met his wife so it was worth it to get that started. FINALLY

I fully expected that there would be closure or at least a continuance of Jazeera and Rukh's story. there is still so much that i want to hear about Arisa. for example... Defiance. Suwraitth is gone but there was still so much unexplained at the end you could write two more books about it. here's hoping that happens because the trilogy was fantastic.
