Finally a female character that doesn’t blow the whole relationship because of a miscommunication

The narration was perfect. I absolutely love the duet narration. This book has to be one of my favorites mostly because it made me feel that the characters really were falling for each other. When there was a miscommunication the female character didn’t overreact and punish the male character. She actually took a minute to think reasonably. Which is always my eye roll moment in other books. Even though there were many morally grey areas I was cheering them on to make their relationship work. I will be looking forward to more books by this author, as well as other books narrated by these two narrators.

The voices seemed off. It was too hard to visualize someone with an older voice like they were in the present. The time travel was weird and hard to tell who was from what time period. It was okay. I wouldn’t read it again and I’m glad it was a part of the membership.

I’m so over books that are mad at men for everything and then the man is apologizing for being a man. Ugh. Stop. I stopped reading when he said he was wondering if another man would put on makeup and so he drew him doing it. This book had so much potential but unfortunately it had to punctuate every woke ideology out there. So glad I didn’t waste a credit.

Maybe reading would have been better, but I found it hard to keep focused on who was saying what. Everybody sounded the same. The mysteries were meh. I got to mid of book 3 and was not still not invested enough to care about the characters.

I loved the first four, this one just felt different. I will read the 6th to find out what happened but I’m not as interested as I was in the other 4. I didn’t feel a love connection between the two at all. It felt a little too much on the man shaming. I also would recommend re reading the other four to remember who was who. The ending was a good twist.

Master story teller Kristen Hannah does it again. I held out as long as I could with the tears, but the end broke me. I am thankful for stories like this that reminds me how horrible war is. I think we get too comfortable in our lives and forget the sacrifices and the horror people of war go through. Read it, hug your loved ones and maybe use this as a starting point of having a more grateful mindset. Thank you Kristen and Susan for helping me see things in a new light.

Unpopular opinion, but I am so done with so many recently written stories that push victim mentality and men are horrible and it’s wrong to have traditions and it’s okay for teens to break the law and call it mischief. So many of today’s unfortunate culture boxes were checked in this book that it made me gag. It’s really starting to take the joy out of reading this genre. Can we just have a love story without the virtue signaling?

Maybe better as a book, but the voices got to me

What I really liked was the male voice did the male parts and the female voice did the female parts. However, I felt after a while the male voice sounded so disinterested and the female voice was so whiny that it felt like nails on a chalkboard. The story did hit a lot of hard topics for a romance novel. This book might be better if I imagined the voices by reading the story instead of listening to the story.

It was a beautiful story of family life, midwifery and the trials and strength of women in the 18th century.
