But the witch in the forest, Xan, is kind and gentle. She shares her home with a wise Swamp Monster named Glerk and a Perfectly Tiny Dragon, Fyrian. Historia
If you thought magic was confined to one country - think again. Trier: famous for wine, Romans, and being Germany's oldest city. When a man is found dead with his body impossibly covered in a fungal rot, the local authorities know they are out of their depth. But fortunately this is Germany, where there are procedures for everything. Enter Tobias Winter, an investigator for the Abteilung KDA, the branch of the German Federal Criminal Police which handles the supernatural.

Interesting glimpse into international Practitioners
Revisado: 07-06-19
Very cool little jaunt over to Germany to see how it’s done in places other than The Folley. Definitely establishes new people of interest capable of driving their own spin-off series. Quite a lot less collateral damage than Peter’s first foray into policing the supernatural! I struggled a bit with the accent, but it certainly made things authentic! Narrator could have used more expression in his voice, but maybe that level was culturally appropriate? Either way, I enjoyed meeting “Mr Winter,” preoccupied as he was with comparing himself to Peter Grant, and “Ms Summer” (as one of the characters remarked on! You’ve got to be joking!) I wouldn’t switch allegiances, but I would certainly continue reading if Aaronovitch decides to write more about this (much more organized) branch of supernatural policing.

Historia
Richard Castle, New York Times mega-bestselling mystery writer and star of ABC's hit primetime show Castle, is back. In the seventh novel of his popular Nikki Heat series, the NYPD's top homicide detective has been promoted to captain just in time to face a thrilling case with a very personal twist. Captain Heat's fiancé, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Jameson Rook, is deep in an investigation.

Written with Castle fans in mind
Revisado: 12-31-18
These books are definitely targeted at fans of ABC’s Castle tv show. Petkoff does a very good Castle/Rook impression, which ups the fun level. (Unusual that this novel departed from form in that it did not include the “acknowledgments” at the end written in character as Castle.) I cannot remember but I expect this was the volume written to be released after the actual in-series wedding, where everything seemed to be done up with a lovely bow. I am nervous about moving on to the next books because of the extreme departure of character in the series following that season break, but that should not reflect on this book. This book was as good as all those that preceded it, and enjoyable to listen to, thanks to Petkoff. I continue to be pleased with how classy the love scenes are.

Historia
As a lifelong student of Scripture, Kathie Lee Gifford has always desired a deeper understanding of God's word and a deeper knowledge of God himself. But it wasn't until she began studying the biblical texts in their original Hebrew and Greek - along with actually hiking the ancient paths of Israel - that she found the fulfillment of those desires. As you journey through The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi, you'll also find additional content from Messianic Rabbi Jason Sobel throughout the book.

Worth Re-reading
Revisado: 08-07-18
I actually borrowed this book from the library the first time I read it, but thought the advice was so useful, clearly explained, and easily implemented that I bought it on Audible so I’d have a copy to access at will. I’ve re-read it a few more times since. I love the pattern for the week laid out by the author. Engage your kids!

Admittedly surprised
Revisado: 05-30-18
This was maybe my most surprising read of the year so far: a book by harlequin, part of the Audible romance package, and it legitimately didn't have a single love scene. I am not complaining! I just have to admit that I was surprised. I kinda expected at least one, y'know?
The story itself was fine. I found the "shamanic magic" performed to be pretty superpowered, especially considering Jo, the shaman in question, basically gleaned all she knew of shamanic practice from a new age ... website? I liked her mechanic mind's way of puzzling out analogies for the magic, though. Anyway, she was going to have to figure out the power somehow, right?
I'll move along to the next in the series.

Historia
Where the Marble Arch stands today in London was once the Tyburn gallows - also known as The Hanging Tree. The walk toward those gallows along Oxford Street and past the Mayfair mansions has a bloody and haunted history as the last trip of the condemned. Some things never change. For both blood and ghosts have returned to those mansions of the super-rich. And it's up to Peter Grant - England's last wizard and the Metropolitan Police's reluctant investigator of all things supernatural - to get to the bottom of the sinister doings.

The world continues to deepen
Revisado: 05-02-18
I recently insisted to a friend who had started reading this series on her kindle that she simply had to do herself the favour of reading the rest in audio. I know she'll thank me.
This book introduced some very intriguing new characters and deepened old stand-bys. The Faceless Man resurfaces -- and starts making mistakes. I'm super-eager for the seventh volume due in November of this year!
As always, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith completely nails the narration. Superb!

Mark Sakamoto certainly had some strong-willed family members of inspiring and forceful character. He also had some family members who struggled greatly. It's fitting that the lesson Mark gleaned from all their stories of one of forgiveness.

Crowning achievement
Revisado: 04-09-18
I didn't realise until I got to the afterward of this audio that this was the last novel Sir Terry Pratchett wrote before he passed. I'm grateful for all the beautiful and amusing and true things he wrote about in the Discworld, and particularly pleased he brought us along so far with Tiffany.
This story finds Tiffany a little older, a little wiser, and finding her feet and her way in a changing world. The old favourites are all along for the ride, and some new surprises, too. Well done, Sir, and thank you.
