Historia
Ever since I met my handsome husband Dr Gabe Bonneville, I started playing the role of the perfect housewife. He works hard as a surgeon, so I look after our home, and throw elaborate dinner parties with champagne cocktails for his best friends Hugh and Anita. He’s my safe place and my chance to have the family I’ve always wanted. I’ve managed to hide the mornings when I wake up and see a face in the shadows. I haven’t told Gabe the truth about the woman who raised me, or told him about the therapy I’ve been getting so my secrets stay hidden in the dark.

Historia
When Meaghan O'Connell got accidentally pregnant in her twenties and decided to keep the baby, she realized that the book she needed - a brutally honest, agenda-free reckoning with the emotional and existential impact of motherhood - didn't exist. So she decided to write it herself. And Now We Have Everything is O'Connell's exploration of the cataclysmic, impossible-to-prepare-for experience of becoming a mother. With her dark humor and hair-trigger B.S. detector, O'Connell addresses the pervasive imposter syndrome that comes with unplanned pregnancy, among other issues.

Plan B, C & D
Revisado: 10-19-23
I listened to this many years after I had our sons. “ The Plan” is never “the plan.” It’s validating to hear her story and realize it’s okay when things don’t go as planned. Loved the author’s honesty, voice and intonations.

Short & Informative

This book is about an extraordinary woman. It’s difficult to leave Pierre Currie out of her story. Maybe O was expecting more details of Madam Currie’s life well after she married. Still interesting to learn of her humble beginnings and persistence.

Historia
In the years around 1870, the concept of building a great bridge to span the East River between the cities of Manhattan and Brooklyn required a vision and determination comparable to that which went into the building of the pyramids. Throughout the fourteen years of the bridge's construction, the odds against its successful completion seemed staggering. Bodies were crushed and broken, lives were lost, political empires fell, and surges of public emotion constantly threatened the project.

Bud Threadgoode grew up in the bustling little railroad town of Whistle Stop with his mother, Ruth, church-going and proper, and his Aunt Idgie, the fun-loving hell-raiser. Together they ran the town's popular Whistle Stop Cafe, known far and wide for its fun and famous fried green tomatoes. And as Bud often said of his childhood to his daughter, Ruthie, "How lucky can you get?"

Continuation of a Great Story
Revisado: 12-01-20
Fried Green Tomatoes has always been a favorite book & movie of mine. The fact that Fannie Flagg had it in her to write & narrate about the next generation of Whistle Stop was so enjoyable. Bud & Ruthie lead us to all kinds of secrets, stories and old friends. Such a fun listen.

Better Late than Never
Revisado: 11-30-20
The author as narrator really made this book even better!
Rachel Simon, the big sister,
was hesitant to step up and live in
her sister, Beth’s world. All the characters were integral to this story on how to accept and learn more about one another.
As a former teacher, I saw this daily & appreciate a first hand account of siblings and family learning from each other.

Historia
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

I have to admit the somewhat slow start to this book is well worth it after you get into the meat of this endearing story. Ove is someone you know. Ove is in your family. Ove may even be you.
