Historia
Toby never meant to be a highway robber, but needs must. He didn’t plan to impersonate a top London valet either, but when the chance comes to present himself as the earl of Arvon’s new gentleman's gentleman, he grabs it. Unfortunately, the earl is the man he seduced and robbed on the road to get here. Oops.

short but effective performance

great dual narrator performances. a little low stakes but a surprising amount of development in so short a time

Historia
The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting and bloody confrontations with the formidable Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii, ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen's rule remains absolute, enforced by her dread Claw assassins.

Enough promise to rely on its reputation but eh
Revisado: 05-23-22
there are a lot of jumping povs that have visual cues in the book but the narrator gave zero pause or indication for making it very difficult to tell a pov shift had happened until a few lines in
as a general book it's very dry. the most interesting action scenes aren't fleshed out or detailed enough so they're flashes in an otherwise crowded pan. malazan has a reputation for being a more difficult high fantasy read because Erikson gives little explanation and throws you in, and that's fine for discovering the world and magic system, buy to write a political intrigue with multiple crews and factions on each side without ever setting stakes makes your audience hard to win over.
I've heard enough good things about the series (and even just book 2) that it's good enough for me to continue on, but without the reputation I'd not care to continue reading.

Historia
Jade, the mysterious and magical substance once exclusive to the Green Bone warriors of Kekon, is now coveted throughout the world. Everyone wants access to the supernatural abilities it provides, from traditional forces such as governments, mercenaries, and criminal kingpins, to modern players, including doctors, athletes, and movie studios. As the struggle over the control of jade grows ever larger and more deadly, the Kaul family, and the ancient ways of the Kekonese Green Bones, will never be the same.

great end to the series
Revisado: 02-01-22
a few of the final chapters made me misty eyed, and a few had a distinct "heist" film montage flavor when different members of the clan are all doing their piece of a certain multi pronged plan that quickly cycled througy pov's which really upped this book's pacing

Historia
Once upon a time, a princess slept in a magical tower cloaked in thorns and roses. When she woke, she found no Prince Charming, only a surfeit of hair and grotesquely long fingernails - which was, honestly, better than some creep who acted without consent. She cut off her long braids and used them to escape. But she kept the beard because it made a great disguise. This is not a story about finding true love’s kiss - it's a story about finding yourself. On a pirate ship. Where you belong.

Not as strong as books 1 and 2 but worth reading
Revisado: 11-13-19
It wad a good installation to the series but didn't quite have the heart of the first 2 books. The gags were good but it didnt make me emotional as the first two did and isn't quite as quotable or punchy -- I look forward to the next installment.
for audible quality it is expertly performed and I highly recommend any reader experience the audio version. Be cautioned that some anagrams/puns are less obvious when you can't see the spelling, but it wasn't a barrier to enjoyment.

Historia
It takes only one halfling bomb, and Offi Numminen’s world is turned upside-down - or downside-up, really, since he lives in a hole in the ground. His goth cardigans and aggressive melancholy set him apart from the other gnomes, as does his decision to fight back against their halfling oppressors. Suddenly Offi is the leader of a band of lovable misfits and outcasts - from a gryphon who would literally kill for omelets to a young dwarf herbalist who is better with bees than with his cudgel to an assertive and cheerful teen witch with a beard as long as her book of curses.

Holds up to the first book
Revisado: 06-25-19
A little slower to start and took longer to connect with charactera but once it picks up you won't stop. The last third of the book was a blur woth how well the lace went and how absorbed i got. ktfb may have stronger jokes but no country for old gnomes has stronger heart.
the performance added an extra layer i found very beneficial and worthwhile -- highly recommend the audio
