This book has been an inspiration to so many modern books I bet! I keep recognising things that newer books use. It's also written in a clever way

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Historia
When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early 40s, the town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Revisado: 03-04-23
It’s like a normal English village told with exaggeration and even though the story is told from two sides (adult and teens) it’s not enough to care the slow and boating story

Historia
All creatives are cursed. It's the subtle kind of curse. It's the kind you might not notice until you're 46 years old at a desk job wondering why you let the best years of your life slip away. It's the kind that keeps you paralyzed at 18 when you know you have something special to offer the world but everyone says you are too young.

«Do/be like me and look how good I am»
Revisado: 09-18-20
This book contained too much self bragging for his points to really get through to me. Summary: be structured, whittle list and priorities them, and make the list focus on your passion.
How he tells this is through his success story, but it’s too naive and has too few outside perspectives on what he thinks.
If you want a book to find references to others, he has a few good ones.
He speaks in a pleasant voice and speed. 10 minute googling on this topic and another 15 min reading my findings would give me more!

A thousand years ago evil came to the land and has ruled with an iron hand ever since. The sun shines fitfully under clouds of ash that float down endlessly from the constant eruption of volcanoes. A dark lord rules through the aristocratic families, and ordinary folk are condemned to lives in servitude, sold as goods, labouring in the ash fields. But now a troublemaker has arrived, and there is rumour of revolt.

Light reading material with historical facts
Revisado: 08-21-15
The story is well described and one can imagine how it was. Having no military knowledge or much of an interest it managed to keep me interested for 2/3 of the part. I believe I'm not the main target audience for the book as I would prefer a little more romance. However I think it's a great book for people with an interest in history and how France's military/ court work in the late 1800 onwards.
