Most people don't realize how much unresolved emotional pain they carry around. They don't know why they always feel depressed, anxious, victimized, or disappointed. They wonder why they keep making the same self-sabotaging impulsive decisions. These patterns often stem from their lost inner child, which carries a false narrative that has been on repeat since childhood.

Missing content – needs a pdf
Revisado: 05-04-25
I suspect this isn't a bad book, but the exercises go like this, "From the list, select all the responses that resonate with you." But the list isn't read. I borrowed the e-workbook from the library, which did have the missing exercises, but there's no excuse for selling a book without the resources necessary to make use of it. I returned this book when my workbook loan expired. If it had come with a PDF with the exercise content, I'd have kept it.

Ridiculous
Revisado: 03-13-24
I saw an interview of another author hyping his book on the same subject on a podcast I like, but that book isn't available in audio, so I tried this. It seems to be complete nonsense. The exercises jump in with an assumption you're -- hearing voices? Feeling "selves" in parts of your body? Like a memory map? The first amendment on your head, the second on your shoulders, the third and fourth on your knees and toes? It's not clear what to expect nor how to trigger these outpourings. These "selves" simply don't manifest as described as predicate assumption for the exercises. My take is this may be effective therapy for those people on Tik Tock who have convinced themselves they have Tourette's. For the non-suggestible, maybe pass.

kinda of forgettable
Revisado: 03-02-24
this book has been in my library forever, bought in a two-for-one or other sale, but I never got around to listening to it, or so I thought. someone on a forum recommended it recently so I downloaded it. the story felt familiar and the longer I listened, the more I started knowing what was going to happen. I'm not sure I finished it, though. the story moves along and is keeping me engaged, but it's so dark! I expected a little more considering, but this poor man goes back to fix his life and finds he's as helpless to circumstance the second time around as the first. I'm about halfway through and not sure I want to finish this time.

Today, we are told that medical interventions increased our lifespan and single-handedly prevented masses of deaths. But is this really true? Dissolving Illusions details facts and figures from long-overlooked medical journals, books, newspapers, and other sources. Using myth-shattering information, this book shows that vaccines, antibiotics, and other medical interventions are not responsible for the increase in lifespan and the decline in mortality from infectious diseases.

is it propaganda or genuine factual analysis?

interesting thesis but the reliance on Friedrich Engels' observations on 19th century social conditions rendered the entire book untrustworthy.

not her best work
Revisado: 12-30-23
I've been up and down with Rhys Bowen, but this is easily my least favorite of her books. The main character was so unlikeable and overbearing, and even when she blames herself for an outcome that was entirely her fault, she hides her own complicity. In this world, Josie is victim and savior. Good characters line up to worship her in precisely the way they're needed. Bad characters question or obstruct her. Without getting into spoilers, the plot twists are exactly what the clues point to. Everything is exactly want your'd guess. Unsatisfactory story, poor pacing, and lackluster resolution. I hope Bowen isn't burned out entirely, but I'll be wary of her future work.

he's blaming Christianity for this mess?
Revisado: 05-01-23
the author doesn't seem to know the difference between Christianity and weirdos who can't reconcile faith and reason. I suggest he look into Thomas Aquinas before his next book.

laundry list of what's wrong with the country
Revisado: 04-20-23
I don't get all the Screwtape comparisons in the other reviews. This is just a litany of everything the author sees as wrong with our country. I don't even necessarily disagree, but man, was this dull. He does nothing to link the state of our country to diabolical strategy, just asserts it's so. I bought this because I saw the trailer for the movie, but may skip that if it's this dribble superimposed on a legal drama.

“Step by step, I retreated from God and went forth to meet the world, the flesh, and the devil.... I’d join the devil himself.... There is no doubt that I traveled with him at my side and that he extorted a great price for his company.” This is how Bella Dodd (1904–69) described her long battle with atheistic communism, an ideology her Church calls a “satanic scourge.” She later described it as a “school of darkness,” a school of “hate,” a school for which she was a master organizer and infiltrator of every organization—public, private, and even ecclesiastical.

they don't seem to have added content
Revisado: 03-06-23
I picked this up after seeing Dr. Kangor give an interview and had high hopes. I'm disappointed. I'm about two hours away from the ending, but so far, it reads like a summation of Dodd's autobiography. it's also very dry. I'd have liked more insight into her ouster from the party and her conversion.

Historia
It took nearly two millennia for the enemies of the Catholic Church to realize they could not successfully attack the Church from the outside. Indeed, countless nemeses from Nero to Napoleon succeeded only in creating sympathy and martyrs for our Catholic Faith. That all changed in the mid-19th century, when clandestine societies populated by Modernists and Marxists hatched a plan to subvert the Catholic Church from within. Their goal: to change Her doctrine, Her liturgy, and Her mission.

mispronunciations ruin it.
Revisado: 02-01-23
She makes no effort to pronounce Latin, French, or Italian words other than phonetically. Actually, she mispronounces English, too. On to of that, she tries to do accents for foreign speakers by making her voice deeper and clipping her consonants. It sounds like she's aiming for a cartoon Asian accent.

cute setup, all downhill after the sample
Revisado: 12-14-22
The narration was fine. I liked the setup, but once the wedding had happened, it's like Heyer had no idea what to do with it. The main character develops a gambling and shopping addiction. It's hinted she's falling in love with her husband, but don't see it in action. We barely see any interaction between them. Nothing much happens and then there's a misplaced action sequence, and it ends. I've read better plotted romance novels.
I also have to object to the 30 seconds of loud music in between chapters. Who thought that was a good idea?
