Historia
In the 36th century, humanity has conquered the galaxy and colonized countless star systems. The Galactic Empire, modeled along Prussian lines, and the democratic Free Planets Alliance are at war, and the fate of every human being in the universe hangs in the balance. This classic Japanese space opera, adapted into a legendary anime, is finally available in English for the first time.

Historia
"The Golden Brat", Reinhard von Lohengramm, a military prodigy and admiral of the Galactic Empire, has ambitions beyond protecting the borders or even defeating the empire's enemies. He seeks to overthrow the old order and become a truly absolute - yet benevolent - dictator. His rival, the humble Yang Wen-li of the Free Planets Alliance, wishes to preserve democracy even if he must sacrifice his political ideals to defeat the empire.

Goofy title, awesome book
Revisado: 11-01-17
I picked this up on the 2 for 1 credit sale on a whim, knowing nothing about it, and thus I ran into the best damn space opera I've ever read (or listened to, I guess). The main characters are both interesting, and their subordinates, minor characters, and others are all generally interesting and have decent motivations. Even for the incredibly skewed motivations of the nobility on the Empire Side, or the politicians on the Alliance side, reasons are given for why they're so screwed up. So far, I cannot get enough of this series, and really hope they license the rest of the series as I will definitely get every book. If you liked the early books in the Honor Harrington series, then check this out.
Also, Tim Gerard Reynolds did his usual awesome narrating job, especially given the sheer number of characters he had to deal with doing different voices for.

An excellent and cynical take on superheroes
Revisado: 11-19-13
Where does Confessions of a D-List Supervillain rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is a fairly unique audiobook among my collection as I tend to go for much longer full length novels. This one is more of a collection of short stories following Cal's rise from D-list villainhood to trying to fit in with what are gradually revealed to be highly dysfunctional and in some cases merely nominal super "heroes."
What was one of the most memorable moments of Confessions of a D-List Supervillain?
The imaginary Larry scene was an interesting take on the "crazy force of nature" supervillain.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The voice of Calvin Stringle was very distinct and the reader did an excellent job of conveying his cynicism and numerous shades of sarcasm. Unfortunately this made the change in narrators for the epilogue very jarring. Especially given Talmadge's tendency to mumble and slur a few of her words. I understood the mindset behind the switch and it fit with the story, but her delivery is the reason I rated the performance under 4 stars. I had to re-listen to the epilogue just to get all the words clearly.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I listened to this while doing some spreadsheets at work. I frequently had to bite my lip to avoid having my coworkers think I found library circulation statistics hilarious.
