Historia

I previously read the English version of this audiobook, and this French version is just as good. :-)

Historia
To the wider world, Al Pacino exploded onto the scene like a supernova. He landed his first leading role, in The Panic in Needle Park, in 1971, and by 1975, he had starred in four movies—The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon—that were not just successes but landmarks in the history of film. Those performances became legendary and changed his life forever. Not since Marlon Brando and James Dean in the late 1950s had an actor landed in the culture with such force.

DELIGHTFUL!
Revisado: 10-22-24
I feel so grateful for this memoir! I have always admired Mr. Pacino's work and to have the opportunity to listen to him talk about his life was wonderful. This book is intimate, thoughtful and often funny like you're sitting with Mr. Pacino and he's just extemporizing about his experiences. Really enjoyable.

Historia
Duchess Day Radley is a 13-year-old self-proclaimed outlaw. Rules are for other people. She is the fierce protector of her five-year-old brother, Robin, and the parent to her mother, Star, a single mom incapable of taking care of herself, let alone her two kids. Walk has never left the coastal California town where he and Star grew up. He may have become the chief of police, but he’s still trying to heal the old wound of having given the testimony that sent his best friend, Vincent King, to prison decades before. And he's in overdrive protecting Duchess and her brother.

Historia
On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

I love Frank Muller's narration!
Revisado: 04-22-24
Mr. Muller is an entertaining, unrivaled talent, and he completely inhabits this engrossing tale. He has the perfect tone and fluency for King's work (see, e.g., his reading of The Drawing of the Three, book 2 of the Dark Tower series). The Talisman is well written and I didn't mind King's occasional tail-chasing during efforts to perfectly express his plot weirdnesses. Well worth a credit. (Right here and now! Wolf.)

Thank you, Mr. King, for rediscovering, resurrecting and revising this “trunk novel.“ A good story and a touching homage to Steinbeck‘s Lenny and George. I especially enjoyed your introduction, which put this work in context.

Intolerable narration
Revisado: 07-19-23
I was really looking forward to this book, as I have thoroughly enjoyed the entire series up to this point. I just could not stand this narrator. Now, please understand that I am not unusually hard on narrators, and if they’re competent, I am usually sufficiently satisfied, though I have my favorites, of course. my problem with Miss McEwan is that in listening to her, she keeps hitting the same note every syllable. Meaning, that if you found the note on a piano, her delivery would be that very note for 95% of the book. Her reading is fluent and otherwise competent, But this particular note, she seems to prefer (an affectation?) steals variety from her reading, and is at such a frequency as to make my ears wish for silence. Maybe I am the only one who notices this, but I was looking at another book I wanted to buy, and noticed that she was the narrator. Wanting to be fair, I listen to the sample. Unfortunately, again, I had the same reaction to her reading. Can’t stand it. The ratings I gave for the overall rating, and for the story are merely because I could not read more than the first hour of the book without wanting to slam it closed. It is likely a wonderful book, but it sorely needs a different narrator.

Imaginative and interesting
Revisado: 06-19-23
Engrossing take on what could have been Hawthorne’s inspiration for The Scarlet Letter. The woman in this audiobook, who becomes Hester in Hawthorne’s work, is fascinating. this is absorbing, plausible fiction. As usual, Ms. Maarleveld narrates well, though her, Scottish accent needs work.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 06-19-23
I did not know what to expect from this novel. Well, actually, I expected to be unimpressed. I’m so glad I was wrong! This was a very good, well-plotted, and well-structured story. The characters were fully developed and interesting; I cared what happened to them. Plus, this was a great initiation into K-pop and its surrounding culture. I’m glad I got this novel. Well worth the credit.
