Historia
It’s 1936, in Flint Michigan. Times may be hard, and ten-year-old Bud may be a motherless boy on the run, but Bud’s got a few things going for him. 1. He has his own suitcase full of special things. 2. He’s the author of Bud Caldwell’s Rules and Things for Having a Funner Life and Making a Better Liar Out of Yourself. 3. His momma never told him who his father was, but she left a clue: flyers advertising Herman E. Calloway and his famous band, the Dusky Devastators of the Depression!!!!!! Bud’s got an idea that those flyers will lead him to his father.

SUCH A GREAT STORY!
Revisado: 02-27-20
I am currently reading this book along with my 5th graders in a lunch bunch book club. We are very impressed with how this story made details and information about the depression era brought to life through the eyes of a brave child. As an educator, I also love how it adds demension to our current @eleducation literacy lesson (Topic of how Jackie Robinson helped to break the color barrier in baseball, paving the way for other successes).

Riley Kennedy’s emails keep getting crossed with her male colleague, Kennedy Riley. The infuriating man forwards them along with his annoying commentary and unsolicited advice. At least she never has to see him in person, since they work in different locations…until they come face to face at the office holiday party.

Read 1st book first
Revisado: 11-16-19
I purchased both of the books in this collection at once, and started this one first. That was a lottle confusing. Started the 1st book after about 5 min into this one and so glad I did. While this one really can't stand alone, together I really enjoy the stories and look forward to hopefully a 3rd one.

I love Kim's stories!
Revisado: 09-25-19
I find myself in tears several times in this story as Kim took me on a journey through her eyes and heart as she shared some very inspirational events in her life and career.
Note to the author:
Kim, you have truly touched my heart and I take every minute of this reading into my own 5th grade classroom. Your love of the children and your passion for teaching them not just ELA, but life lessons has made a huge positive impact on the way I look at my own life and career. I know that when I find myself in doubt if I made the right choice leaving a job in the tech field to teach for less than half of the salary, that following God's plan for me was and will always be the right chouce. Thank you for guiding me to clarity through your words.

This book is stuffed full of so many great insights that I would find myself putting great ideas right into action the following day in my own 5th grade classroom. Thank you Kim for sharing your talent with me. I feel as if I know you personally after listening to such great details about your successes, thoughts and even recoveries from the inevitable oops here and there.

Still teaching fifth graders in a small, leaky classroom in downtown Los Angeles, Esquith fosters a wholesome climate where character, humility, and diligence matter and support is unconditional. For his mostly poor and Hispanic students, Esquith models two maxims: Be nice and work hard, and There are no shortcuts. And his students thrive!

seems far fetched
Revisado: 09-05-19
At the beginning of this book, I was inspired. However by the end I felt the author must live in a magical world where there are no behavior concerns, no IEPs or county mandated curriculum. I applaud his ability to spend thousands of hours of time after school with and without students, but I cannot visualize the outcome in my own classroom.
