The story takes twists. Pay is a demon who does the devil’s work.. but I found myself liking him almost right away. The ending was great. I like stories that make me go hmmm and think about the future story.. The way the author was able to build the world and the character’s backstories was creative. Will be checking out more books from this author.

Audible suggested this based on my previous listening.
The store was all over the place and so many loose ends. There was no need to add the previous life cut scenes or the friends back in London.it didn’t add to the story. There were some characters that were built in and others that barely had a backstory. This either could have been a cut to a short story or into a trilogy so characters could have been written in better detail.

I will be asking for a refund.

I’m not sure how I got this in my library. It could’ve been my kid or a free book or a sale book but I’m so glad that I actually listen to it and found it in my library. Kinda makes you think in different perspectives, different people emotional relatable.

I listen to all sorts of books. This happens to a series I listened to for fun while cleaning and chores. Such a easy listening series. Amanda’s narration as always makes the audible easy and breeze to listen too and already purchased the next book in the series. Holly is a fun character and she seems to always get herself in trouble. Love the characters of supernatural friends and none supernatural friends.

This isn’t my normal listen, probably made for young males, like a male’s version of a cozy fantasy novel and I found it easy and finished in one day while cleaning my house after the holiday season. Dare I say a cute villain story! Enjoyed the main characters.

Unique retelling but they ruined it

A different version of the story of the “Mother of Kings”. A little slow at times and drawn out. Got this title because Audible recommended probably because I listened to the Witches Heart which I really liked! Personally the accent on this narration is a little thick for me at times and I had to replay.
There is a trans-gender person in the story which is common now and does not bother me but I do not like political / personal statements in acknowledgments. If it was in the beginning of the book I would have not listened and returned the book immediately. It is normal now for modern writers and come to expect a lot of diversity in sexuality and sexual orientation and I am ok with it especially when it is weaved in the story line and not the narrative of the story, But to reaffirm it and bring it out in acknowledgements is a no no for me. Unfortunately will not purchase anything from the author again.
