Historia
So what would Al Gore choose if he had a book club? Gore named Stendhal's The Red and the Black, a 19th century classic chock full of adultery, betrayal, and moral vacuity, as his favorite book on a recent broadcast of Oprah. It's a bit shocking of a choice, given his wife and running mate's position on clean, wholesome literature. Listen and decide for yourself the merit of this presidential pick.

Davina Porter always delivers
Revisado: 05-20-22
Davina Porter always delivers a stellar performance. Stendhal's portrayal of the dramatics of youth struck me (no longer so youthful) as spot on.

Historia
In Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen brought together one of the most beloved literary couples of all time - Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Now, Mr. Darcy's Decision continues the story of these passion-filled newlyweds as they enter London’s glamorous high society. This pause-resisting novel finds Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy entangled in the frivolity and ferocity of social intrigues.

Unlikely premise
Revisado: 08-03-21
The conclusion of the story was satisfactory, but I found the reason for the tension between Darcy and Elizabeth to be unbelievable. Both Darcy's personality and the laws and customs of the day would have prevented the dilemma they found themselves in. I found it impossible to suspend my disbelief enough to submit to simple enjoyment of the story.

Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

very informative
Revisado: 07-24-21
Lots of interesting information, especially in light of current civic pandemic. Beyond that, lots of history of medicine, WWI, and related topics. The biographies of key figures and the very human stories of both direct and indirect victims of the pandemic humanize the facts and figures. Scott Bricks voice is an excellent one for this book.

When small-town Nebraska sheriff Hixon Drake meets Greta Dare, the connection couldn't be stronger, but the timing couldn't be worse. Dealing with the fallout of a divorce he never wanted and setting up a new home for his kids, Hix becomes that guy, that one he never wanted to be, and puts a stop to things before they can even start. Protecting his kids and himself is his only priority. Greta, on the other hand, has found the place for her and the brother she adores that's perfect for them - a sleepy little town in Nebraska.

Romance, KA style
Revisado: 05-25-17
Love almost everything KA writes. This is a respectable entry to her catalog. Strong alpha male, generous, loving woman, well behaved kids. Things we all wish for. Throw in a little drama and some sex. An enjoyable read. Just make sure you are alone or listening with headphones during the sex scenes.
