Historia
When Sigmar sends the Blacktalons on an ambiguous and troubling vision of their latest quarry, they leap faithfully into action as they have done for countless centuries – killing first and asking questions later. But this hunt is no simple task. Neave and her companions are charged with slaying five powerful champions of Chaos. They must do so before these brutal followers of the Dark Gods can procure a long-buried, devastating weapon – one whose destructive power will be felt across all the Mortal Realms. A weapon that could even threaten Sigmar himself.

Whoa wee! Stay till the end

Multiple fun small adventures to keep the pacing going throughout the story. I was going to chalk it up to just being a fun read with some solid character development but then I got to the end of this book.. Great weightiness to the story that feels impactful to the setting in an interesting way and I can’t wait for the next book!
Also! That author did a good job humanizing the Stormcast and making them interesting. Even though plot armor is a thing, emotions and well placed narrative nods really added a lot of vulnerability to this squad of super folks :)

Historia
Heldanarr Fall dreams of a world without gods. When the Azyrites descended upon the Burning Valley – a kingdom carved from the Aqshian desert – they brought arrogance and cruelty with their riches, and a god who seemed blind to it all. Despite harrowing losses, Held clung to his people’s ways, forging a new existence without a single prayer to the armoured deity, Sigmar. Now, all Held wants is solitude. But after saving a Sigmarite priestess from violent death, her troubles catch up to them and destroy the last of his peace.

Depth and Intrigue

After 12 or so AoS stories, this is in my top 3. The story was set up beautifully. The book felt like there was three distinct acts while maintaining strong cohesion with small ripples from the early chapters making huge tidal waves in the latter acts.
After reading Yndrasta as well I can say that Noah Van Nguyen has my favorite take on life in the mortal realms. It’s a phenomenal perspective of colonization after the traumatic age of chaos which allows this arching moral ambiguity his shape characters, places, and stories into much more realized and interesting beats than what you’d find in other AoS novels.

Historia
Following the tragic death of his son many centuries ago, the cruel Vulture Lord, King Zothar Athrabis, made a terrible bargain with Nagash to preserve his child’s soul. Now, once every 10 years, the new champion of the Games must become host to the boy’s tormented spirit, while the old vessel is condemned to death. Most citizens of Lament deem this a great honour, but when the city’s newly crowned champion, Lycus, is taken by the king to raise as his own, his family question their sacrifice.

The first half of this book really gave you a slice out of Shyish and told you an incredibly unique background and plot set up. Unlike most Black Library books, the non-Order factions had more character than I expected. The Bonereapers were still horrific but there were some characters that had more depth beyond a spooky boogeyman. Highly recommend if you want an interesting piece of the mortal realms
