book/story itself was great. the narration tho was awful. I think this was mostly a poor quality or narration, as I don't think the narrator himself was terrible. he tried to change his voice to suit different characters, but his accent/dialect kept coming through - occasionally making his characters seems British, or an odd Boston accent, or even almost a South African accent at a couple points.

I struggled with this. the story was good, but the language the Hero used wasn't really that believable. I thought his brother would have made a better Hero. The Male narrator did a decent job, but the female Narrator lacked depth. I felt she was reading and not performing. She mispronounced a lot of words and just fell flat. Some editing issues, specifically at the end of (I think) chapter 24 - the grocery store scene.

Story was okay... pretty predictable. Narrator had a decent voice on her main female character, but her male character and child voice could use some work but could use some work on her cadence. Many sentences just didn't flow naturally, and there were several awkward breaks and breaths. Audible performance also needs some editing.

My "Go-to" listen

I think I have listened to this audio book at least once a month for the last 6 months. As always, MZ has the perfect slow burn. Callie Dalton has narrated most of MZ's books and always does the perfect job. Her voice just "fits" with MZ's female lead, and her masculine personalities are never questionable or out of place. Between the story and the narration, this is a listen you can really get lost in.
