Interesting Robin Hood Retelling
Revisado: 06-24-22
This was an interesting Robin Hood retelling featuring Clarissa Kae’s immersive story telling and Victorian time period. The author brings a bit of redemption to an unlikely hero and we get a lot of answers to the mystery thread that has been ongoing in the series. I don’t love this narrator so much. I feel as if the voice is an older woman and doesn’t reflect the energy or age of the characters well.

Historia
Greta loves her job as assistant librarian. She loves her best friend, Will, the high school civics teacher and debate coach. She even loves her mother despite her obvious disappointment that Greta is still single. Then she meets Mac in the poetry section of the library, and she is smitten. Mac is heart-stoppingly gorgeous and showers her with affection - poetic text messages, and free hot chocolate at the local café where he works. The only problem is that he seems to be a different person in his texts than in his face-to-face conversation.

Entertaining but…
Revisado: 09-16-21
I enjoyed the light hearted feel of this story and I loved the authors witty humor that was Infused into this story. However, I did not enjoy the heroine. She was absolutely selfish, self centered and immature. It was hard to get past and affected every facet of this sweet story. I had issues with her being shallow and using her best friend when she needed him and easily discarding him when she had better options. He was the picture of a saint, taking all the drama and lapping up any bit of attention she decided to throw his way.
This character was silly, dealt in extremes, and really only focuses on her own agenda which made it hard to like her. It’s sad when the world started crumbling I was glad and hopeful that she would learn from natural consequences. I really loved the authors writing style and would happily try another book by her, I just didn’t click with this character and it really overshadowed my perception of the book as a whole. This narrator was great and did a wonderful job expressing the sarcastic nature of the characters.

Historia
Diane knows why the earl asked her to marry him; he needed a mother for his daughter, an heir for his title, and a hostess to assist with his position in Parliament. With two sons of her own, and no security to speak of, she never thought twice about accepting his proposal. Summering at his holiday cottage at the sea was meant to be reward for a busy first year as the new countess, and a time for her to rest before their baby is born.

Such a great collection!
Revisado: 08-31-21
This collection was so great! Usually I shy away from collections because I tend to like one and the rest are lacking, however I enjoyed each and every novella in this collection. The seaside setting was the perfect backdrop and the stories were each unique and entertaining!
The narrator was a perfect match for this light hearted collection! Totally recommend this one! It will not disappoint!

Captivating!
Revisado: 08-07-21
This book was absolutely captivating! From the atmospheric Victorian setting to the layered characters and intricate plot, I was absolutely impressed. Here is the deal, I’m not someone that typically enjoys fairytale retellings. I find that that sometimes a book will try to adhere so much to the fairytale that the plot suffers of elements become forced or too whimsical. However, this book was the absolute best retelling I have ever read. It was loosely based on beauty and the beast, however it was such a brilliant plot that the nods to the original story were weaved seamlessly into this tale. I love a wounded hero and Dom delivered in so many ways. Watching him soften and allow his kind heart to peek through was my favorite. I also love a strong heroine and Georgiana was loyal, witty, and not afraid to speak her mind. These characters have an unexplained attraction to one another and their biting banter is really entertaining. The whole mood of this story is somewhat serious and brooding which I felt perfectly portrayed the time period. There is no magic teapot or curse, but this story is imaginative and will keep readers turning the pages!

Enjoyable and sweet
Revisado: 08-01-21
I enjoyed this sweet historical romance. It took me just a little bit to get into the story, but once I did it was enjoyable! Personal preference that I could have done without the Italian accent that was given to the secretary and ambassador. I think it was supposed to add authenticity, but it was a bit distracting. It didn’t affect the story at all however. I enjoyed the interaction between Emma and Luca. The friendship that they built was a perfect stepping stone to a realized romance. I loved the family dynamic in this book and am definitely hooked into reading more of this series. I would have loved to see a bit more of Luca’s personality emerge during those moments where he and Emma were together. He was very guarded and I wanted him to loosen up a bit more, but I overall really enjoyed this book.
