Historia
One of the most depressing realities of modern life is the regularity with which deadly attacks are carried out in the name of Islam. Almost as depressing are the invariable reassurances by Western political leaders and media elites that these acts of violence have “nothing to do with Islam”. As part of these reassurances, we will also regularly hear the terms Radical Islam, Islamism, Militant Islam, "so-called" Islamic State (ISIS) and Jihadist bandied about as if people who act violently on behalf of Islam are somehow perverting the pristine teachings of the Muslim religion.

Just the facts, ma'am
Revisado: 06-15-19
Peter Townsend strips away the meaningless platitudes being spewed by almost every Western politician who speaks on this topic. With facts, figures, reason and logic he exposes the absurdity of the arguments that Islam is not to blame for the terrorists who claim to be killing in the name of it.
Everyone knows that there are countless moderate Muslims who want nothing more than to live peaceably with their neighbors but as Brigitte Gabriel has so devastatingly pointed out, they are irrelevant.
If we don't confront this literally existential danger we are actively taking part in our own demise.
I stand 100% with moderate Muslims but until they can feel safe to speak out without being targeted themselves they have no power to change the tide of hatred.

Historia
It was never supposed to be this close. And of course she was supposed to win. How Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election to Donald Trump is the tragic story of a sure thing gone off the rails. For every Comey revelation or hindsight acknowledgment about the electorate, no explanation of defeat can begin with anything other than the core problem of Hillary's campaign - the candidate herself.

Pathetic, fawning.
Revisado: 05-15-18
I thought that this book was actually going to tell the story of what went wrong in the Clinton campaign. I was sadly mistaken. It is a fawning apologetic that never addresses the actual issues but simply spews the narrative put forth by the Clinton propaganda machine. Misogyny, racism, sexism and the vast right-wing conspiracy. No, she is just a despised human being who was perhaps the worst candidate in history. Pathetic.

Historia
In Israel and the West, it is called the Six Day War. In the Arab world, it is known as the June War or, simply, as "the Setback". Never has a conflict so short, unforeseen, and largely unwanted by both sides so transformed the world. The Yom Kippur War, the war in Lebanon, the Camp David accords, the controversy over Jerusalem and Jewish settlements in the West Bank, the intifada, and the rise of Palestinian terror are all part of the outcome of those six days.

Fascinating
Revisado: 05-13-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Definitely! Well-written and excellently narrated
What did you like best about this story?
The fact that it is based almost entirely on contemporary accounts from people who were there from their letters and official documents and then is enhanced by their later accounts.
Which scene was your favorite?
The stunning effectiveness and overwhelming success of the initial battles.
Any additional comments?
If you want to have an informed understanding of this pivotal event in modern Middle Eastern history this is the book. The author doesn't gush over either side but simply gives the facts of what was happening and how things developed.

Historia
The enigma of Alexander the Great has remained with us for 2,300 years. In spite of the best efforts of historians, Alexander is no less a mystery to us now than he probably was during his own lifetime. There was no one like him before or since. In the pages of Harold Lamb's intriguing Alexander of Macedon, we find some of the answers to the great riddle of his character.

What an Amazing Man!
Revisado: 05-13-14
What was one of the most memorable moments of Alexander of Macedon?
When he first exerts his will in asking for his horse, Bucephalus.
Have you listened to any of Charlton Griffin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, Louis XIV at Versailles. Both were excellent. His voice can be a little overpowering at times but is very easy to listen to.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No
Any additional comments?
Excellent history of Alexander. The author tries to be fair and informative about what is history and what is myth and tells the story of this incredible man in a very entertaining and engaging manner.
I really can't recommend it highly enough.

A Fascinating Monarch
Revisado: 05-13-14
Would you listen to The Life of Elizabeth I again? Why?
Possibly. There are other books I would listen to again before this one but it was an excellent book
What did you like best about this story?
The descriptions of court life during that time.
Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?
Elizabeth
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No. It was very interesting but nothing that brought out any extreme emotions
Any additional comments?
This was an excellent history of Elizabeth and the days in which she ruled. Well-narrated, well-written and historically rich.
The one criticism that I had, and it really was necessary to the story, was the constant prolonged intrigue about whether or not she would marry.

Absolutely! You simply cannot have a proper understanding of European history without a knowledge of Louis XIV.
What other book might you compare The Sun King to and why?
Catherine the Great, Peter the Great
What about Charlton Griffin and Ellen Ezekiel ’s performance did you like?
Griffin did a very good job, never boring, never "draggy". Ellen's interludes made me want to learn French!

Historia
Prize-winning historian and biographer, Carolly Erickson has created an eminently readable biography that recognizes the humanity of Great Catherine—Empress of Russia—with her majesty and immense capability. Dispelling some of the myths surrounding her voracious sexual appetite, the biographer portrays Catherine as a lonely woman far ahead of her time—achieving greatness in an era when women were executed on a husband’s whim.

Absolutely Outstanding!!!
Revisado: 05-13-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Great Catherine to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Great Catherine?
The moment she rushed to the capital to present herself as the new Sovereign.
What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?
She allowed the story to just flow out in a manner that kept it compelling and she seemed to have an amazing ability to accentuate things in just the way they should be at the time they should be.
Any additional comments?
An amazing story told expertly with much of it being based on Catherine's own diaries. One of the most amazing leaders in the history of Europe.

Historia
North Korea is isolated and hungry, bankrupt and belligerent. It is also armed with nuclear weapons. Between 150,000 and 200,000 people are being held in its political prison camps, which have existed twice as long as Stalin’s Soviet gulags and twelve times as long as the Nazi concentration camps. Very few born and raised in these camps have escaped - but Shin Dong-hyuk did.

Amazing Story
Revisado: 05-13-14
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
His struggle with understanding what most of us just consider normalcy after being raised in utterly inhuman conditions.
Which scene was your favorite?
The description of his speech at the end of the book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No
Any additional comments?
I thought the book was excellent. This story is absolutely amazing, in particular, how everything fell into place at the exact right time in the exact right way for his escape to be possible.
I enjoy authors reading their books but Blaine was a little bit less expressive than I would have hoped.

Excellent Series. Best Narrator I've heard
Revisado: 03-12-13
Would you consider the audio edition of The Hunger Games to be better than the print version?
Carolyn McCormick does a fantastic job of narrating this book. It is the best narration of an audio book I have ever heard. She brings the story alive. I have listened to all three books in the series and she did the same fantastic job with all three. I can't see how the print edition could be better.
What other book might you compare The Hunger Games to and why?
Obviously "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay", the second and third books in the series.
Which scene was your favorite?
When she drop the Tracker Jackers
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Katniss sings to Roo.
