Historia
April 25, 1986 in Chernobyl was a turning point in world history. The disaster not only changed the world’s perception of nuclear power and the science that spawned it, but also our understanding of the planet’s delicate ecology. With the images of the abandoned homes and playgrounds beyond the barbed wire of the 30-kilometer Exclusion Zone, the rusting graveyards of contaminated trucks and helicopters, the farmland lashed with black rain, the event fixed for all time the notion of radiation as an invisible killer.

Historia
Poverty is much more than simply a lack of material resources, and it takes much more than donations and handouts to solve it. When Helping Hurts shows how some alleviation efforts, failing to consider the complexities of poverty, have actually (and unintentionally) done more harm than good. But it looks ahead. It encourages us to see the dignity in everyone, to empower the materially poor, and to know that we are all uniquely needy - and that God in the gospel is reconciling all things to himself.

Great questions, good answers, so-so narrator
Revisado: 08-26-22
Content is fantastic for challenging the entrenched top-down and materialistic philanthropy of most poverty-alleviation efforts, especially those directed by Westerners. The authors make an effort to provide practical solutions, to be constructive, not merely deconstructive. I am the director of a Christian international water science nonprofit and have spent 3 decades in ministry of diverse sorts. I heartily recommend this book.
The narrator inflected at odd points in sentences and was unfamiliar with Biblical names based on his novel pronunciations.

Historia
A century ago very few people dreamed of space travel. Today it is the most daring and technologically sophisticated quest ever undertaken, being driven not just by government agencies such as NASA and ESA, but also by visionaries such as Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic), Elon Musk (SpaceX) and Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin). To mark the 50th anniversary of the 1969 moon landing, this major drama-documentary series charts the definitive story of the past, present and future of humankind’s exploration of space. The Space Race is narrated by Kate Mulgrew and features a full cast.

woke much?
Revisado: 11-12-20
More concerned with telling the story of social justice in space than the story of exploration beyond earth. Dramatized portions were...not great.
What it has going for it is what the producers had nothing to do with: the information that makes the historical story of the space race.

Historia
All Things for Good by Thomas Watson provides the biblical answer to the contemporary question: Why do bad things happen to good people? Thomas Watson, the 17th-century minister of St. Stephen's Walbrook, believed he faced two great difficulties in his pastoral ministry. The first was making the unbeliever sad in the recognition of his need of God's grace. The second was making the believer joyful in response to God's grace.

beautiful exegesis. perfect pacing by the reader, dennison. I was tempted to bookmark every other sentence, but had to limit myself to a few choice quotes to share with siblings in Christ so as not to overwhelm them with Watson's rich food.

Historia
All Christian disciples have one thing in common: As they carry the Gospel across the ocean and across the street, persecution will become the norm for those who choose to follow Jesus. How believers respond in the face of persecution reveals everything about their level of faith and obedience. The Insanity of Obedience is a bold challenge to global discipleship. Nik Ripken exposes the danger of safe Christianity and calls listeners to something greater.

Poses all the tough - and right! - questions
Revisado: 07-16-19
Ripken's challenges to Christians are critically important. His writing, the syntax, leaves something to be desired. The reader, too, is a little sleepy. Neither of these criticisms should discourage a thoughtful Believer from enjoying the book, however. I am a Reformed, Covenental Christian and disagreed with some of Ripken's analyses, particularly regarding baptism. Every Christian in the Western world, no doubt, will have a disagreement with at least something in Ripken's book because he challenges so many Western norms and delves boldly into topics over which Believers joined in Christ have peacefully argued about since the first century. Ripken's thought-provoking words were a great blessing to me and I heartily recommend the book.
