The reader did an amazing job with the characters in the book, especially the narrator. It was very well written with and polish, very rare in this genre.

An interesting character that just happened to do things. There was no depth or follow through to the characters or the story.

Historia
Hiddensee recreates the backstory of the Nutcracker, reimaging how this entrancing creature came to be carved and how it magically guided an ailing little girl named Klara through a dreamy paradise on a snowy Christmas Eve. It also brings to life the mysterious godfather Drosselmeier - the ominous, canny, one-eyed toymaker made immortal by Petipa and Tchaikovsky's ballet - who presents the once and future Nutcracker to Klara, his goddaughter.

Disappointed
Revisado: 11-29-23
It was a great premise, but fell flat in the writing. There were interesting descriptions and turn of phrases at times, but the character development was so poor that the ideas were lost the last 15 to 20% of the book finally caught my attention as the toy maker Started to develop close relationships and the story came to a fruition.

She’s also one of Starfall Point’s resident witches, responsible for keeping the local ghost population in check. But even the most magical of witches can use a shoulder to lean on, which is what happens when Ben Hoult, the handsome doctor she never quite got over, walks back into her life. Historia
Florence, the 1550s. Lucrezia, third daughter of the grand duke, is comfortable with her obscure place in the palazzo: free to wonder at its treasures, observe its clandestine workings, and to devote herself to her own artistic pursuits. But when her older sister dies on the eve of her wedding, Lucrezia is thrust into the limelight: the duke is quick to request her hand in marriage, and her father just as quick to accept on her behalf. Having barely left girlhood behind, Lucrezia must make her way in a court whose customs are opaque and where her arrival is not universally welcomed.

Read way too fast and plot more silly than necessary
Revisado: 01-22-23
The narrator was the same as the last book but read this one at far too fast a pace. We had to slow it down to .8 to understand her words when we usually listen at 1.1-1.2x. Her accents were strange and the Southern accent bled into the main character far too often.
The story in book 1 was clever, entertaining, and unique. This one had the main character dumbed down from
Book 1 and constantly making stupid choices and whining about everything.
