Historia
When Rocky Elmore joined the United States Border Patrol, he knew it would be a journey fraught with danger. But little did he know that the very real trails he walked night after night would soon lead him into surreal encounters from a different dimension. This was never more evident than when the ghost of a recently fallen fellow agent began to appear on top of the cliff from which he died. It marked the beginning of the end to one of the most bizarre series of events in the history of the US Border Patrol.

pretty bad!
Revisado: 01-26-24
I think the author has a 4th grade education - not sure he knows what a contraction is. moving between real issues of aliens (immigrants) and pursuit thereof on to wildlife scares and then to ghosts, all with equal credibility in the writers mind. way too much of his political beliefs interjected too
sounded like Tom bodett narrating, so it sounded even more folksy

Historia
The second Nagorno-Karabakh war—fought between Armenia and Azerbaijan between September 24 and November 10, 2020—was the first war in history won primarily by unmanned systems. This forty-four-day war resulted in a decisive military victory for Azerbaijan. Armenia was outfought, outnumbered, and outspent and lost even though they controlled the high ground in a mountainous region. The fact that Azerbaijan won the war is not extraordinary. What is exceptional is that this was the first modern war primarily decided by unmanned weapons.

thus wasn't terribly insightful or useful. the idea that drone warfare and ai enabled kill webs is not new
the narrows pronunciation of basic terms like iads or ooda loops was sadly comical

Historia
A military expert reveals how science fiction is fast becoming reality on the battlefield, changing not just how wars are fought, but also the politics, economics, laws, and ethics that surround war itself. Singer’s previous books foretold the rise of private military contractors and the advent of child soldiers - predictions that have proved all too accurate. Now he explores the greatest revolution in military affairs since the atom bomb: robotic warfare. We are now seeing a massive shift in military technology....

weird pronunciations
Revisado: 04-04-18
What did you love best about Wired for War?
The theme of the book. How autonomous systems are changing the entire landscape of warfare
What other book might you compare Wired for War to and why?
"How Everything became War and the Military became Everything: Tales from the Pentagon." The overarching reach of the military into all sorts of dimensions of our lives. Also think it reminds me of "Life 3.0" or "SuperIntellilgence" which are both about artificial intelligence and its impact on our societies and lives
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Some really strange pronunciation of the terms: "SIPRnet," "c-RAM," and "OODA "
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Sort of. I don't think I've ever done that. This was a good book on my commute... so 30-45 minute intervals :)
Any additional comments?
