I didn't necessarily identify with the author, but that's OK. Well written and well read. It was an interesting book that I didn't want to put down. Maybe not the best choice if you're looking for a pick-me-up.

Interesting, but not so funny or inspiring

The start of the book caught my interest. Tomboys are cool and accepted, but a Tomman is just awkward and ambiguous. Then the tone took a turn. Although self-deprecating at times, Ms. Klein is so self-absorbed that parts were difficult to read. For instance, following the break-up of numerous relationships which are never her fault, she keeps wanting/expecting the man involved to apologize. What about her? I wasn't surprised that her now husband was hesitant to commit to such a Jewish American Princess. She will not be easy!!!

Hackneyed . . . Yet Another LGBT Hollywood Story

I don't think I can finish this. It is just too boring.
Don't get me wrong, there are some GREAT books/movies about LGBTs that were absolutely riveting. Kiss of the Spiderwoman, The Crying Game, Boys Don't Cry come immediately to mind. In part, these stories were so compelling because of their uniqueness both in terms of where the stories took place and also when the books were written. Maybe I would have liked 7 Husbands a little more if it had been published 50 years earlier . . . but probably not.

Painful, but worth it!

I almost stopped reading this half-way through, but I'm glad I didn't. The author's awkward laughs during the narration and his constant bouts of tears wore against his complete lack of compassion (taught to him by his father from a young age). Still, a fascinating story that deserves being told and heard.

but at the end of the day, it was slow, boring, and completely predictable. I was mesmerized by The Making of the Oxford English Dictionary and thought this would be along the same lines. It was not.

Enjoyable read and very well narrated, but the story could have used a bit of tightening up especially towards the end. Reminiscent of A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore which I absolutely loved.

Honestly True Grit

David Goggin's story is one of triumph against all odds. Although most of us have never walked in his shoes, we can identify with his struggles. What I found most interesting is that he was able to devise a plan to achieve his goals that was completely different from any plan I would have devised, yet he got there in his own way. The book stayed with me, and I wish him the very best.

Inspirational speakers tell us to 'set goals' in order to achieve our dreams, but what if the ultimate goal for you is beyond anything you know exists? This is to reach a place beyond your dreams and setting goals would have only gotten in the way. I just hope that Tara Westover knows how rare and wonderful her accomplishments are.
