A Perfect Escape

This book was just what I needed right now. The story is fun and the lead is a dimensional, strong, funny, 40-something woman. I read lots of fantasy varieties, but right now I'm unable to lose myself in the typical tropes and need stories with bold, outspoken, women written for the female perspective. This fits the bill!

It's just so good. The story is great and keeps building, the characters have depth and personality, and the narrators are perfect! I laughed, I tingled, I'll look out for more work from this author 😆

Al wrapped up in nice neat bows

I liked the series overall, but this book got to be predictable as the author worked to neatly tie everything up. This book also had an odd flow to it wherein every chapter seemed to conclude with a final cliffhanger or some grave foreboding...it was weird and created a jerking feel to the story. I was left feeling ready for the story to be finished.

Another good one!

It's a good story, unexpected and original even though the main character is originally introduced as a supporting character in another book and it seems like those types of stories are often kinda predictable and bland. The duet narration is great, both actors are super reliable and consistently good in the work they put out.

Heads up, this story has A LOT of heavy drug use and experiences related to addiction...might be difficult content for some.

Good ol fashioned romantasy HEA

I laughed, I cried, and there's nothing better than a morally grey fictional man to fall in love with for awhile. This is a solid fantasy romance series with great narrators!

Narration needs work

The story was okay, about what you'd expect from the genre. The narration ruined it for me though... it's like the cadence or the inflection are off, particularly with the male narrator.

Really obnoxious characters with no redemption arc at all

I forced myself to finish because sometimes unlikable, basic, shallow characters get redeemed at the last minute....that didn't happen here. I liked the some of her other Miles High books, but man, this one just flat out sucked.

Unexpected!

I liked book 1 in this series so figured I'd probably like this one as well, but I friggin LOVED this one! I really wasn't expecting the characters or the story to go the way they did. It was just great from start to finish. I legit laughed out loud (hard). There's enough spice to keep things interesting without it being prioritized over plot, but it's not super intense spice so if that's your jam you might want to table this read for later. I think CJ Bloom is one of my favorite female narrators, she and Sebastian both did nice work on this one!

Slow and bland

I'm not sure what I was expecting here, but this was almost a DNF for me. The plot was slow and the characters felt basic. I love Joe's narrations so I think I had a higher bar for this one, but even his narration felt forced and overperformed at times...like his voice was infused with a need and desire that didn't connect with the characters' development or something. Maybe I've spent too much time lost in dark and fantasy romance, but this regular romance hardly grabbed my attention.
