Perfect end to a perfect series!

Megan you did it again! So glad the end to this series ended this way. No spoilers here 🌞. Not a huge fan of the performance voices for the feminine/non-binary characters, but you can only do so much.

One of my favorites!
Revisado: 05-27-24
I read the books then decided to immediately listen to the audiobook. The voice actors do a great job, and the story is beautiful with so much longing. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a magical story focused more on characters than intense world building.

Anti-fatness is everywhere. In What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat, Aubrey Gordon unearths the cultural attitudes and social systems that have led to people being denied basic needs because they are fat and calls for social justice movements to be inclusive of plus-sized people’s experiences.

Essential Reading for 2022
Revisado: 03-07-22
This book highlights the struggles of the author in regards to anti-fat bias, stigma and discrimination that affects the vast majority of larger bodies. Her use research to back up her experiences and suggestions for how to get to work on this issue being a sense of hope, especially to a fellow large body individual like me. I’ll be sharing this with everyone I know!

Historia
California’s fire season gets hotter, longer, and more extreme every year - fire season is now year-round. Of the thousands of firefighters who battle California’s blazes every year, roughly 30 percent of the on-the-ground wildland crews are inmates earning a dollar an hour. Approximately 200 of those firefighters are women serving on all-female crews. In Breathing Fire, Jaime Lowe expands on her revelatory work for The New York Times Magazine.

Heartbreaking story of the plight of the incarcerated and women in general
Revisado: 08-11-21
This book is a must read for any Californian, anyone that cares about our communities and our state, as well as those that live in it. Truly heartbreaking to hear about these women who have been down on their luck be abused and traumatized while incarcerated instead of receiving the therapy and rehabilitation they need. Even worse to hear how their troubles follow them after they have done their time, where it is hard or impossible to find jobs because of their records. This is a great way to renew the call for prison reform. These women and their male counterparts put their lives on the line and don’t even get paid a firefighters wage to do it. You need to read this book.
4 stars on performance because there were points where the audio was obviously spliced in that were a bit jarring, otherwise author was great.

Historia
When Geraldine "Gerry" Largay first went missing on the Appalachian Trail in remote western Maine in 2013, the people of Maine were wrought with concern. When she was not found, the family, the wardens, and the Navy personnel who searched for her were devastated. The Maine Warden Service continued to follow leads for more than a year. They never completely gave up the search. Two years after her disappearance, her bones and scattered possessions were found by chance by two surveyors.

Cautionary tale, not much suspense
Revisado: 07-27-21
This was a good look into the Appalachian trail hiker realm and a good look at the difference between novice hikers and experienced outdoorsmen. It was a heartbreaking story that was well plotted through different sources. A good read, but not a murder mystery if that’s what you’re looking for. A very important reminder to be prepared for the worst while out in the wilderness, especially as far as using a compass and map is concerned.

Historia
In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the incident—unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes—have led to decades of speculation over what really happened.

mountaineering mystery fits the bill for
Revisado: 03-16-21
This book was the perfect speed for a quick mystery that still had intrusive and some exposition. The mix between present day and the year of the tragic event was well timed and you never felt like you’d wish they’d skip one time period to “get back to the good part” like in other books.
Also a great view into the feelings about communism from mixed feelings about the government from interviewees. Leaves a sense that the author did his due diligence in seeing all sides of this mystery before declaring it solved. Did I mention it’s a *solved* mystery as far as this book is concerned? More than that I was convinced his answer made sense.
I was a little disappointed with the voice performance from the author, as some of the sections were read slowly like the writing wasn’t made to me read out loud. Otherwise great book that I will be recommending to my mountaineering friends, or those that like mysteries.

In the first chapter of this epic trilogy, the outcome of the historic War of the Ancients is forever altered by the arrival of three time-lost heroes: Krasus, the dragon mage whose great power and memories of the ancient conflict have inexplicably diminished; the human wizard Rhonin, whose thoughts are divided between his family and the seductive source of his now-growing power; and Broxigar, a weathered orc veteran who seeks a glorious death in combat.

A must for WoW players
Revisado: 12-18-20
This book breathes life into the World of Warcraft spheres that have been developed over the past several decades. I’m not sure if it would be confusing for those not familiar with the background of the world, but those who have played any of the related games will love it. Masterfully written and performed with voices that do not throw you out of the telling of the story.
