Historia
We were prepared for an earthquake. We had a flood plan in place. We could even have dealt with zombies. Probably. But no one expected the end to be quite so... sticky... or strawberry scented.

Not His Best
Revisado: 11-24-24
While "Jam" is an interesting and amusing take on an apocalyptic scenario, it lacks the deeper insights and message present in the Jack McKeown series. Yahtzee's an amazing reader, though, and there were laugh-out-loud moments of comedic timing, the overall story just felt flat to me. The characters didn't evolve, and the social/cultural commentary was weak. It was worth a listen, but as a palate cleanser between other, "heavier" books.

Historia
In an apathetic society devoid of ethics or regulation, where fusing tech and flesh can mean a killing edge or a killer conversion, a massive conspiracy is unfolding that will alter the course of the human condition forever. With corporate meatheads on her ass and a necro-tech blight between her and salvation, Riko is going to have to fight meaner, work smarter, and push harder than she's ever had to. And that's just to make it through the day.

Good, but not Great
Revisado: 04-11-21
If you're into Cyberpunk fiction, you'll find this to be a passable example. The story is okay, but sometimes hard to follow - though I think that's a problem with the performance more than the writing. Kovacs does a good job with the main character, but often the dialogue from the supporting cast is stilted, and her reading of action scenes is as wooden as plain exposition, often in a jarring way. In the end, I finished it because I'm a completionist, not because I was dying to know how it ended. The finale was fairly predictable, with the only twist serving more as sequel-bait rather than a part of this story. Too many overused tropes, too rooted in the habits of the genre, and ultimately good enough to not elicit an angry review, but far from getting a good one.

Great Performance, Middling Book
Revisado: 03-26-21
Unlike the crisp and punchy narrative of Book 1, Book 2 has a lot of odd POV changes, time skips, and a fairly convoluted plot that resolves far too conveniently. While Sparks' reading is excellent and the emotion he puts into his characterizations is compelling, I found myself having to go back and listen to sections to catch the sudden jump in time or action. As a Shadowrun fan, I'm invested in the story of Sam, Dodger, Sally, and Ghost, but this story just misses the mark a little. Book 1 was a step above.

Historia
After forming a coalition of human resistance against the enemy invasion, Dalinar Kholin and his Knights Radiant have spent a year fighting a protracted, brutal war. Neither side has gained an advantage, and the threat of a betrayal by Dalinar’s crafty ally Taravangian looms over every strategic move. Now, as new technological discoveries by Navani Kholin’s scholars begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals.

Slightly less good than the previous three
Revisado: 01-19-21
Sanderson has accomplished something very special with the Stormlight Archive, but this chapter feels more like a "middle" than any of the others. As usual we're left with a hundred questions, but this time, I feel there were less answers along the way. Sanderson's worldbuilding is impeccable, but in this book we see the hand of the author more readily as concepts are explained in sometimes too-overt ways. Where I give the other Stormlight books 8.5-9.0 out of 10, this one is a solid 7.5 Still good, but not AS good.
