It’s ok. A bit too edgy for me.
Revisado: 10-09-20
It’s got some good concepts which I feel were good reviews of things I’ve learned but put all into a book. I personally didn’t like the overt adolescent speech style especially where she gives an example of defending LGBT people against the archetypical uncle by marginalizing his group. Seems like the thought process hadn’t come full circle and missed all the cisgender female Trump supporters which happens to be close to 50%.

Historia
In Why We’re Polarized, Klein reveals the structural and psychological forces behind America’s descent into division and dysfunction. Neither a polemic nor a lament, this book offers a clear framework for understanding everything from Trump’s rise to the Democratic Party’s leftward shift to the politicization of everyday culture. America is polarized, first and foremost, by identity. Everyone engaged in American politics is engaged, at some level, in identity politics.

Great Information With A Birdseye View, Nauseating Narration
Revisado: 03-20-20
This is a very good book as far as the information goes the near ration is terrible though because he constantly giggles in a sort of immature space mug fashion. I think that is because he views himself as needing to appear more feminine to fit in with his peer group. He seems to underplay his own identity while overplaying women’s which I find rather spineless since he belongs to a minority himself. Being an ally foremost makes you essentially a tool. There’s actually a good bit of a antisemitism going on these days but since he’s a “white male” not even a “white man” he’s got to say his mea culpas. He also didn’t mention white women’s privilege with that. Everyone on the board of trustees at Huff Post is one. There’s a great book on this called “White Women’s Rights” written in 1999 so before all this.
He’s a self described brainiac so I think despite sounding like a 15 year old with his inflections he’s incredibly sharp and actually rather unbiased for the most part. A lot of this I’ve noticed stems from the need to conform ideologically in school and be agreeable. We can’t get to the real meaty truth is we keep kow-towing to people in charge and their sacred cows.
Another thing I’d like to mention is that I tried to convince a conservative friend to read this book in a book swap which was futile. If more people talk like this which no one really likes it’ll become harder.

Taken Aback By This Book
Revisado: 04-17-19
I’ve really enjoyed some books on audible, but this one has got to be the best and most important book I’ve read so far.
As someone who really enjoys technology and an idealist at heart, this book really spoke to a foundational level. I’m going through the process of more thoughtfully planning my usage of my phone and computer, and I had been hearing that people who grew up with smartphones are experiencing astronomical levels of anxiety and depression. A few years back, I heard of four or five suicides occurring in one year at a local high school. So you could say that this seemed much bigger than some minor annoyance that lots of people write it off as and forget about. I even had a friend reach out to me about a service he is now providing to help the digital generation become better acclimated to the workforce. I can’t leave out that my freshman year of college in the honors dorm the valedictorian and everyone on the bottom floor flunked out because World of Warcraft had just come out....Even on a school trip overseas countless hours were spent on Facebook. This was the year they introduced a lot of important features. As you can see looking back I’ve seen and experienced a lot of the negative side effects.
This book explains how to use technology instead of it using you. More importantly it explains reasons why we should. The author cites a few different mindsets on this which really shows this is not so much about productivity but a lifestyle choice.
I’m convinced that after adopting the wisdom in this book those who implement these thoughts are going to feel like they’ve come out of a long technology induced coma.
I know that a lot of reviews say, “Get this book!” Well this one really is that book for me because it’s a book for everyone and everything.

Why We Sleep

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Scott Adams has likely failed at more things than anyone you’ve ever met or anyone you’ve even heard of. So how did he go from hapless office worker and serial failure to the creator of Dilbert, one of the world’s most famous syndicated comic strips, in just a few years? In How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big, Adams shares the strategy he has used since he was a teen to invite failure in, to embrace it, then pick its pocket.

Probably the best book I’ve listened to on Audible
Revisado: 05-11-18
This book is really good at, and I will definitely read it again a few more times. He happened to talk about a few things I have come to believe shortly before reading this. One was that diet and sleep impact your overall mental health more than anything. That is a very key concept which goes against the stream of most American culture. He builds on these habits in a synergistic way that makes life a lot easier.
Instead of saying to hit the square peg harder into the round hole, he suggests doing simple things (not over the top hard things) in order to essentially leave the door open for the good to come in. This seems fairly Taoist to me. It’s almost a feminine quality to receive the good rather than just constantly propelling yourself into the future while negating the importance of your wellbeing.
Again I would say this is maybe the best book I’ve listened to on audible. Everything said here (with the exception of a few debatable diet suggestions like drinking coffee) are very solid and reasonable.

This book is very good because it’s length makes it more easy to impediment. I have listened to it twice now because the information in it needs to be understood more deeply so you can do it without thinking. Everything he said here is SOLID advice on meeting women online and dating them. Women give each other advice so it’s really smart to not just figure it out all on your own.

It is estimated that as many as 34 million people grew up in alcoholic homes. But what about the rest of us? What about families that had no alcoholism, but did have perfectionism, workaholism, compulsive overeating, intimacy problems, depression, problems in expressing feelings, plus all the other personality traits that can produce a family system much like an alcoholic one? Countless millions of us struggle with these kinds of dysfunctions every day, and until very recently we struggled alone.

What made the experience of listening to Adult Children the most enjoyable?
This isn't some hokey book for saps. It's informative and brings concepts to everyday language and also metaphor. This is the first I've read on the subject, but I feel it's a very important one. Give it a try if this is something in your life.
