This audio book is abysmal. You'll see if you look through other reviews that this is basically a big scam by the publisher. Let me list a few of the absurd parts of this:

• The book is split into 3 parts, you'll pay for each separately.
• Though I'm not sure how its possible the audio production gets worse in each part.
• The publisher couldn't be bothers to make the stylization of the cover consistent on the three parts, or clearly and understandably which part is which.
• The titling of the chapters is non-existent its impossible to toggle between the printed and audio versions of this if thats your thing.

Seriously, this audiobook sucks.

I think what they did was took the original recordings by Grover Gardener prepared for the 30+ cassette version of the audio book, digitized them and just dumped them onto Audible. Its a travesty. Each "chapter" is about 45 minutes long, and the final sentence of the chapter is duplicated at the beginning of the next. This is the case for the first two parts. The third is more brazen, they didn't even bother to edit out Gardener saying "you've reached the end of this cassette, please flip it" and reading the entire titles of the book at the beginning of each chapter.

This is purely a matter of laziness as it's pretty simple in this day and age to just clip that stuff out and find the actual chapters and park them appropriately.

Shame on Knopf, or whomever put this together.

Listen, it’s already an insult that we are expected to pay three times for a single book. Who’s idea was it that this be split into three separate recordings?

But it’s worse. This particular one (section 2 of 3) is a production disaster. Instead of being broken up into distinct chapters that align with t he book’s chapters, it’s grouped into 45 minute “chapters” that follow no logical course.

I am betting these are the recording sessions/divisions the narrator used.

Each chapter ends with a sentence that is duplicated in the next “chapter”.

I don’t get it, why do this so shoddily? The first section of this book was fine?

Anyway if there was any ability at all to listen to this as one single “book” with great production I would. But instead since Audible has the lock on this I’m stuck paying 3 times for one book with at least one of the recordings being a total train wreck.

I want my money back and I want a single audio book produced equally throughout.

This book is really thought provoking and interesting. I read it a little earlier this year and decided to give it a second pass via audible. But it’s simply unbearable. This reader seems like he’s never read the material before recording his audio. His inflection and intonation never matches the content of the sentences and makes listening to and comprehending the material all but impossible.
