Very Little New Stuff
Revisado: 03-25-24
This is the first title I've requested a return/refund for.
There is little new stuff in this compared to the World War Z complete edition I've had for years. I've listened to that book several times but was sorely disappointed to hear the first story is pretty much the same Canadian army - Afghanistan story. I skipped around looking for new compelling stories; I gave up. Also, it felt like the audio was off, almost like it was a little hollow. Maybe it was the headphones I was using, but it felt different than the original.

In the world of work, there is one place where seniority means nothing, where shoptalk is banned, and where the persecuted minority gather regularly to discuss every subject under the sun: the smoking room.

Loved this show but I could never find it in the US. I wish they would release the second season as an audiobook.

Historia
The fourth and final year of the Civil War offers one of that era’s most compelling narratives, defining the nation and one of history’s great turning points. Now, S.C. Gwynne’s Hymns of the Republic addresses the time Ulysses S. Grant arrives to take command of all Union armies in March 1864 to the surrender of Robert E. Lee at Appomattox a year later. He breathes new life into the epic battle between Lee and Grant; the advent of 180,000 black soldiers in the Union army; Sherman’s March to the Sea; the rise of Clara Barton; and much more.

Historia
If anyone could be considered a Russian counterpart to the infamous British double-agent Kim Philby, it was Oleg Gordievsky. The son of two KGB agents and the product of the best Soviet institutions, the savvy, sophisticated Gordievsky grew to see his nation's communism as both criminal and philistine. He took his first posting for Russian intelligence in 1968 and eventually became the Soviet Union's top man in London, but from 1973 on he was secretly working for MI6.

Historia
Colonel Joe Bishop made a promise and he's going to keep it; taking the captured alien starship Flying Dutchman back out. He doesn't agree when the UN decides to send almost 70 elite Special Operations troops, hotshot pilots, and scientists with him; the mission is a fool's errand he doesn't expect to ever return from. At least, this time, the Earth is safe, right? Not so much.

Skippy and Bishop = Bad Vaudeville Act
Revisado: 05-30-19
I had to stop two-thirds through, the repetitive dialog was too annoying. Skippy is an all knowing and calculating lifeform but for some reason can only think of the insult "monkeys" when describing humans. We get it, humans are dumb. Everytime Skippy talks there's like 3 jabs about humans being monkeys, bishop and every human is dumb, and lastly Skippy is really smart. Just move along with the story. Later in the book Skippy says he's got interesting findings but not before 10 minutes of bad shecky green banter. I started skipping forward just get to the important bits. Turns out, it wasn't that important. It felt like the author was just trying to fill pages; like a college student trying to reach the word minimum for a paper.
I've never done one of these reviews before, but this is not a good book. I don't know how the rating is so high.
