Historia
When Brighton Longfield discovers her treasured protection amulet is missing, she finds a note in its place from Langoria Skeenbauer telling her that Tuttlesmiths are not welcome in Coventry. Brighton confronts the woman in the town square with a crowd of Coventry's residents watching. Of course, Langoria Skeenbauer is one of the town's most upstanding citizens, so people assume she's innocent and Brighton is nuts. When Langoria is found dead in the cemetery across from Hangman's House, Brighton becomes a suspect.

A supposed lake monster and a strange man who likes to skulk around with an axe.

More intelligent than most books in genre. Also, about more mature adults. Not a rehash plot.

I need an easy listening sometimes and these filled the bill. Characters are likable but not soppy. Worth a credit.

Revisado: 10-16-23
I am about 20 per cent through book and like others i can’t stand sound effects. As much as i like the story and explanations of subs and life i may not finish. Even my dog hates the bugle. Offer a sound free version . 1950s tv at its worse.

World War II at Sea offers a global perspective, focusing on the major engagements and personalities and revealing both their scale and their interconnection: the U-boat attack on Scapa Flow and the Battle of the Atlantic; the "miracle" evacuation from Dunkirk and the pitched battles for control of Norway fjords; Mussolini's Regia Marina - at the start of the war the fourth-largest navy in the world - and the dominance of the Kidö Butai and Japanese naval power in the Pacific; Pearl Harbor then Midway; and much more.

Great Listen!
Revisado: 09-18-23
Finally, an author who is not fearful of expressing intelligent conclusions about errors of judgment made by misdirected and sometimes stubborn men of high rank. Very well researched with new facts not in prior histories of the war. As much as possible he presents losses not merely as tonnages but as people whose fates were decided in the most arbitrary ways. This is THE book every adult of voting agr should read.

Historia
On the first Sunday in December 1941, an armada of Japanese warplanes appeared suddenly over Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and devastated the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Six months later, in a sea fight north of the tiny atoll of Midway, four Japanese aircraft carriers were sent into the abyss. Pacific Crucible tells the epic tale of these first searing months of the Pacific war, when the U.S. Navy shook off the worst defeat in American military history and seized the strategic initiative.

Fascinating with facts I wish all Americans knew.
Revisado: 09-04-23
This is a heavy book to handle in one go even for someone very interested in WW 2. I took a brief break after Coral Sea so as to keep facts separate from Midway. Sometimes the abbreviations were a bit mych for someone not well versed in the aviation aspect of the war in the Pacific. It took going back to footage of early navy divebombers for me to really appreciate the nightmarish approach required. I just didn’t “feel” it from the book. I slowed the speed and ran it through a speaker to handle narration which could have been better. Talking through one’s nose does not allow for a pleasant change of voice. Still, must read/listen.

This book left me speechless!
Revisado: 06-30-23
Warning: the review contains a spoiler.
As a long time fan of Greig Beck I have to say I don’t know if I or anyone else who loves his characters should chance any more of his books. I was disappointed to lose the character Valerie but accepted that was realistic. This book however was horribly a downer. If an author wants to end a series fine, but don’t take it out on the reader by giving us a depressing crash ending. I use to listen to Greig’s books over and over but I have such horrid images from this book I shall not be able to listen again.

Historia
Promising architect Peter Young is shot dead at his desk. DCI Craig Gillard is on the scene, looking at what appears to be a brutal and highly professional hit: two bullets, fired with ice-cold calm. Gillard knows that the most crucial question in solving the crime is one word: why? Two weeks later, on the Lincolnshire coast, another body is found on a windswept beach. In this case there is no identity for the young man, just a curious brand burned into his neck....

Significantly better than its predecessor
Revisado: 06-24-23
I rated theme prior book 3 stars but stated I saw so much promise I was going to buy the second. This had a tight, fascinating story line with developed characters and a real feel for the misery of the Balkan states 20 years ago. Great dialogue, good rhythm. A fearless storyline showing life is not always what we imagine it. Bravo!
