This title is the first I’ve listened to that uses a virtual reader. Virtual reader technology is actually MUCH better than I anticipated, and in my opinion is better than many paid readers. I’m going to get the next book in the series, so I’m glad the virtual reader is quite acceptable—not discouraging me from carrying on reading the series. The story is unique, based on the Irish legend (mythology?) of the De Dannan, pre-Christian Celts unknown to me heretofore, which is fun because it is not a hash/rehash of the same old tired, overused stories of warring ancients. The story is complex, introducing a host of supernatural yet relatable characters with surprisingly original superpowers. I’ll be watching for the entire series and more from Seph Ronden and Thomas Stout.

Educationally fascinating.
Lawrence Wright narrates his book well, although I find it curious that he pronounces words incorrectly now and then. Example: nascent uses a long a. Wright pronounces the ‘a’ like ‘ah’ in this word. I know the town he calls home—so I know it’s not a regional thing. He does it with other words too—can’t recall others just now, but for audible books, it makes it harder to listen to. Very odd, coming from a Pulitzer Prize winner.
